In case you were wondering - flossing really does work!

At my last visit in Nov. the hygenist wanted me to come back for deep cleanings. I HATE, HATE, HATE getting shots in my mouth. Did I mention I really DESPISE getting shots in my mouth? I mean, I LOATHE going to the dentist and having work other than cleaning. I will do nearly anything to avoid this ABOMINATION. I just ABHOR going to the dentist.

I resolved to floss every day. AND it worked! I went in for a check up and my gums look so much better. No deep cleaning for me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if only I could apply this determination to doing core work...

How about breast exams? My response one time to the hygenist was I was equally good about flossing and self-breast exams. Neither is completely neglected! Fortunately, she has a good sense of humor.

BTW, I did 4 sun salutations today and a few boat poses. Something in the wind about doing a century in only 7 and a half weeks. We'll see how long this determination lasts.

ROFLMFAO!!!!!!

I carefully read the flossing post, Veronica, and with visions of being nagged into brushing by my ma, of flossing from my uncle, and of visits to the "murder house" at school and the dentist as an adult, I began to read Sadie...

WTF??? Flossing my breasts? Why? Does that really help with detecting disease??? So i did a double-take, re-read Sadie's post and realised she was making comparisons... not saying she flossed her breasts or that we should floss ours!!!

Thanks for the laugh, ladies, even though it was probably unintended!

I completely agree on flossing also. I would have needed some major peri-dental work years ago. My gums were in bad shape. The dentist said "floss, floss, floss, so I did 3 times a day and my gums are greatly improved and I do not need any treatment. I do go to the dentist every 3 months for a cleaning and now to be honest just floss 2 times a day.

I got back today, all shiny and new and wasn't told off (I have been baaaad about flossing) and was given my very own probe thingy to scratch off some occasional tartar.

Last time they used ultrasound on me. It was painful. There is a reason they anesthetize pets to do it. I refused this time.

Actually flossing on a pretty regular basis, and investing in a Sonic care electric tooth brush has made my dentist visits much more pleasant. I plan on keeping the rest of my teeth. I am always astonished at how much crud I pull out, after brushing, when I floss. WHHHHHYYYYYY did I avoid it for so many years?   When now my teeth look like this: :D !

I'll let you know if my professional organization starts recommending that breast flossing thing. I'll go become a sherpa if I have to include THAT in my patient education! :p L.

I'm a dental hygiene student, and yes, flossing is good! I'm learning a lot about the bacteria in the gunk you pull out with your floss. A very simplified version of what our textbooks say is that the waste products from those bacteria are a big part of what makes your gums sore and infected. Congrats to those of you who've made the connection and have improved your health by flossing! Flossing is very good...ok, I'll hop off my soap box now.

If they start teaching us about breast flossing I'll let you know.;)

Flossing = good. Please be careful, my dad was over zealous, and actually put grooves in his gums! Probably one of the only people asked to NOT floss......

The timing of this is so funny. I recently got my braces off (yay yay yay) and it had just recently occurred to me that I've become a flossing maniac. It's so much easier without the rebar in the way :D

Lucky you, to have gotten your braces off!! I am so totally jealous! It will soon be three years that I've had mine on. Can't hardly remember life without them. Yes, flossing is a time-consuming project with braces. Anyway, glad to got them off!! Are you happy with the results? Was it worth it?

With my mother nagging me about flossing and illustrating all her dental problems, I floss.

This will tempt you to floss more often, too........http://www.perio.org/consumer/mbc.top2.htm
