I'm blaming hormones. So I walked/jogged the school run with Small Girl, who was on her bike. Got back, got ready to ride to town for my dental appointment, found the bike lock, loaded the basket on Minnie the Mixte, then remembered that I can't ride her at the moment because a couple of things aren't right (mainly a handlebar now rotating in two axis rather than one). So, transferred everything into a pannier, put the pannier onto the Vita, then set off in sundress and wedges (because of course I can wear anything on the mixte). Saddle wrong height for shoes and not really comfy without a liner. Stopped to adjust, then remembered that the seatpost isn't quick release and I didn't have an allen key with me. Climbed back on, stopped awkwardly to scoot through a barrier and cut my shin on the pedal. Looked at blood trickling down my leg, then skirt of dress blew completely over my head. Mopped shin, walked home, got changed, took the car. Went to dentist, need a filling. :(

Do you think my Vita knew that I was only using her to run an errand :o? I've done miles and miles on that bike without a hint of an injury, and today I barely got round the corner. Or is it just because it's Monday? Either way, the mobile bike mechanic will be here tomorrow morning to sort Minnie out.

Ack! What a day!

Days like that always make me wonder if Mercury is retrograde.

Days like that you just want to crawl back into bed and get out on the other side hoping that will make a difference. So sorry to hear, be kind to yourself today.

Thanks for all the lovely replies! You can always rely on the women here to understand. Thank you all :)

The wonderful mobile mechanic came out first thing this morning. Minnie now has a tightened up handlebar, the headset set correctly, tightened back brake, non-rubbing front brake and a handful of other small changes. I cannot wait to ride her again and see how she feels with everything checked over and adjusted correctly. He also fixed the front wheel of the Vita, which had been rubbing noticeably. I did get to put a quick 5miles on the Vita afterwards, and the difference was remarkable. Of course my smartphone app didn't record, but I knew that the time was faster than I've managed in a while. The bike was perfectly well-behaved, I can only assume that she really doesn't want to run errands. I can hardly blame her.

That's why I almost never check, because then I think of a million ways it could have been worse!
