View Full Version : Short ride - but proud of myself

You know me, I am the Queen of Pushing Myself Too Hard, and I've paid the consequences of that in the past.
This morning I had my usual group training, but I had taken the day off to enjoy the weather and go mountain biking. Checking out my hip (which feels fine) and seeing all of the bruises I allowed that perhaps I should wait to try out the new tire. Ok, so I will hit the roads and go find some hills to climb. Best laid plans...
7.9 miles on the odometer because my neck (whiplash remainder) started complaining. BUT I listened to my body so have decided to be proud myself. I've had this happen before, and it will be fine later today (because I stopped). I suspected trying to do both activities on the same day might be a bit too much and it was. I will still enjoy the lovely weather and ride Friday - weather permitting.
It was lovely and cool, winds at 1mph! I also saw a young buck deer with lovely velvety antlers, and several does about the same age. They all snorted at me :)

8 miles is a dandy ride. We don't always have to go for distance... you got on the bike and got some fresh air!

Good on you for listening to your body.
I'm really tempted to take Friday off to go down there myself, but I have to wonder whether my overworked DH will smother me with a pillow if I do. He's so bummed about this weekend's weather....

I am off work at 11 on Fridays (I work four 9 hour days and one 4). I just might have to do that meself...
Do you think he would buy that you need more practice since he has been mountain biking longer than you?

Yeppers :) It also wasn't smart anyway to consider a hill climbing day after having done the group training AND extra leg presses with a rather large amount of weight...

Good job, Catrin. I've been known to overdo it myself, and while mine comes out in physical illness, rather than injury, I find that short rides, of like 45 minutes are sometimes just fine.
It's a gorgeous day here and I just got back from a 33 mile ride with my friend who has been at her house on the Cape most of the summer. I wanted to do a group ride this morning, but it takes up too much time. However, it's 2:00, I just ate lunch, and I now have 2 hours to study a bit for my licensing exam, and then see a client. I think we dawdled and stopped and talked too much! But, I love this weather... started out at 60 degrees and is now 73.

He'll concede that I could alway use more practice (who couldn't?), but I think he'd still be pretty bummed. He's been working a lot lately thanks to a prototype build at Cummins. And he didn't get to ride at all last weekend because he went home to visit some friends and family. He's generally not a spoil sport, but by the same token, I also try not to rub it in when my job presents some extra downtime. . My boss is on vacation beginning tomorrow though. Anyway, sometimes you gotta take one for the team in marriage. But maybe I can talk him into cutting out early. There's that possibility, too, I suppose.
When I realized that this weekend might be a bust, I contacted a friend of mine from Cincy. I think we're going to visit her on Sunday, so at least we have something fun to do. I hate spending three day weekends sitting around the house!

I agree on hating to sit around for a long weekend. Thankfully I do have a big group workout scheduled for Monday, and I can work on my own Saturday - and since I've not been to church for over a month that is also an option. Still a lot of downtime though. Hoping if the rain comes that it is later on Saturday and I can get in a really good urban/rural mixed ride in early, early that morning. We will see...
