LBS had samples for sale and since I wasn't sure I'd like the stuff, I picked up a couple. I did pick up some Nuun tablets as well, but will have to wait until next week to try them.
Wow. Was really impressed. No sick feeling because of sugar or a bloated feeling and no dying for salt afterwards all night long.
I don't know how electrolytes affect performance, but I didn't stop the entire time despite the high crosswinds, climbing the gravel and dirt road hills, and on the way home, the rain. Great ride until Murphy's Law hit in and it rained the 6 miles home. That was a cold, wet and windy ride. Just glad I always keep my jacket in my pack.
So, if I buy the bigger package from the website, it sounded like I needed a tin or a jar to keep the powder fresh. Of course they are happy to sell me one or the other.
Thanks for the suggestion. I really enjoyed yesterday's ride and even decided to explore off the beaten track. My Fargo does really well off road, even in the dirt although my Mukluk would have made it even easier.
w00t!
Don't buy the container from them if you have a store like World Market nearby, where glass jars cost $6! If you order from them, use the code to get 15% off: SDMFACEBOOK (comes from the FB page). Good to hear it worked for you.

I haven't gotten any yet but I really want some.
As far as storage ... make sure you use a container that's all glass, or glass with a metal lid - no plastic. I store lots of dry goods in jars, and neither the screw-on polyethylene tops nor the polycarbonate pressure lids are moisture-tight. Supermarkets around here have the hinged-lid glass jars.
And has anyone tried their SiO2-lined water bottles, or have any contribution on the science behind them and their likely durability? I'm very curious.

I tried it and I liked it. A lot! I hate NUUN because they have that Alka-seltzer taste to them (all those fizzy bubbles make my stomach sick).
I have also used Ultima Replenisher. Used it all summer last year training for my Ironman. It's along the same vein as Skratch. Light taste, good electrolytes. Neither is as cheap as Gatorade, but both are MUCH better.

We love the Skratch drink mix!!

They're actually the Specialized Purist bottles. I have been using these bottles since I got a free pair of Hammer ones at Sea Otter. They are great. I love the nozzle - so much better IMHO than the Camelback or the giveaway bike shop versions. I've also had good luck with a pair I bought that lives on my gym bike and did not grow mold where other bottles would. Can't comment on the durability really as I haven't had any of them longer than 4 -6 months.

Tried the orange flavor yesterday in 100 degree weather, wind and fresh crushed limestone that I had to slog through most of the trail. No sick feeling and no salt cravings afterwards despite being out for nearly two hours. Orange flavor was okay..not great but not bad either.
Planning on buying some tomorrow when I head up to Lincoln. Since I get to go to civilization I plan on going on some of the trails and thankfully they are FLAT. I'm so sick of hills. Maybe I can actually get some real mileage in although it's tempting to try out the mountain bike trail despite having to ride alone.
Yay for Skratch Labs! My sister and I started drinking it earlier this season and we love it. The Co headquarters is just over in Boulder so she goes there to get it. I've had my first bag in a plastic container which is fine. I had her get me the canister for the other bag I have in the pantry. I've had raspberry, lemon/lime and orange. I like them all - they're all light a refreshing. Down with Gatorade! :)

Could a person toss some desicant packets into a container with the powder? I had issues with homemade Gatorade caking up badly and always thought I should hang onto desicant packs to solve that issue.

Where might one find such a thing? I'd like to try it, but I don't know if we can get it here.
ETA: Okay, I can get it, but only if I want to drive to Columbus!

I just received my order of an assortment of the single-serve packets. Going to give it a try on tomorrow's ride. I bought 2 of each flavor, just to see if I like it.
