I ride with spd pedals on my bike but after a couple of hours the ball of my feet gets sore and my toes get a bit numb. Do you think insoles or stiffer shoes are required? I'm fairly new to roadies so may be my techinique , any advice welcome!

Try insoles first. Specialized sells some; I personally like eSoles these days. Stiffer shoes cost a pretty penny, but having done the transition from SPDs and mountain bike shoes to road shoes and Look Keo 2 Max pedals, I am happy camper. The Keos are still a bit of a pain to clip in fast, but much more comfortable than the SPDs.

I have been looking at the specialised ones but will look at eSoles too. My partner has the same issue but with Look Keo easy pedals so will pass on your advice.

Cheers!

I also use esoles with my Sidi shoes.

I like that I can change the arch supports, which I had to do after using them for 2 yrs., they take up some volume in my shoes and they add more cushioning than the very thin insole in the Sidi shoes.

Esoles sizing also works better for me, specific shoe sizes. They didn't have to be cut to fit my shoes and the arch fits better to my arch unlike some of the other brands that have generic sizing.

Thanks for the replies, I'm struggling to find a UK Supplier for the insoles does anyone have any suggestions as to where to get some?

I ordered my esoles directly from the manufacturer as there was no supplier here in CO. They were very helpful with sizing.
