I have a brand new road bike and I am thinking of naming her and I started wondering about other TEers. Do you think it is silly to name your bike? Or were you inspired?

Heh, no worries, you're in very good company

Naming Bikes: Normal or Crazy? (forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=21852)

(There are probably a few other threads but they might have the word 'name' in the title, which is too short or too common to come up in a search)

My bike doesn't have a name, per se, but it's definitely a girl. :D The closest she has to a name is Not-Bikington (so as to distinguish it from my boyfriend's bike, which I dubbed Bikington).

my bike is a pretty light sage color, they call it "Jade", so that is what I named my bike. I like the name for a human too.

There's another thread here (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=42299&highlight=adie)

Mine did have names but they didn't really stick. The mountain bike is now "Scratch" and I think the incoming mixte will be "Minnie".

We are of the belief that your bike will tell you it's name if you are open to listening. In our stable, we have Sky, Chief, Norm and Cruella de Ville

Yes, my Surly whispered a name to me a few days ago as I was considering colors for new bar tape.

I desperately want to name my Madone. She is beautiful and a good teacher. Unfortunately, the name has to just come to me, it cannot be forced. My husband and son had several suggestions, but "Superbike" and "House Payments" just didn't sing to me.

My hybrid's name is Scamp. He just told me.

Of COURSE it's silly to name you're bike. That's what makes it so fun! :D

My bike has been an evolution of ever changing components, including the frame. When I first got her, she was a CAAD9 frame and I kind of called her Caddy for a while. But then it sort of evolved to Caad Baby and then just Baby.

When I got the SuperSix frame, and other changed components at the same time, it seemed like a completely different bike. I guess I kind of stopped calling her anything in particular, as nothing was really jumping out at me. I do like to say that she's "Super Sixy!" Haha! And she is. ;) But that's not a name.

I guess if she had a name, it would still be Baby. This thread has me thinking, though. I WOULD like to have a name that really sticks that I actually use. Baby seems like a nickname, like Honey, and that's how I feel when I call her that. Yet it also reminds me of Dirty Dancing. "Nobody puts Baby in the corner!" I do put MY Baby in the bike cabinet, all safe and sound, though. ;)

I'll let you know if anything jumps out at me today. As for the bike telling me her name . . . that hasn't happened and she's been a SuperSix for a couple of years now. Maybe I just wasn't listening. Hmmmm!

Okay, I just went to a site with pet names, girl pet names in particular. Seemed like a good place to start. I was drawn to names beginning with S, which I later decided was because she is a SuperSIx.

Near the top was the name Sabrina, which jumped out at me. After that I looked through several lists, just female names in general (not pets) and the only other name that kind of spoke to me was Sadie, another S name.

So at the moment, I'm toying with Sabrina (which I could possibly call her Bree for short . . . only then there's no S, but whatever! I like Baby, too, and that's a B. There's something about the first letter of names for me. I have always leaned toward certain letters when I've searched for names for my pets and, of course, my humans.)

Sabrina feels sexy (like how she is super sixy and all!) and like a strong female name . . . and she feels like a strong bike. She's fast, even though I'm not right now, and takes care of me.

Hmmmm. I think I'll live with it for a while. Ponder it and see if it feels right. Also Sadie, but definitely feel stronger about Sabrina.

So there's my super long ramblings on my bike name. Two whole posts even. I need to get a life!

My bike royal blue- exactly the color of a wildflower called Speedwell. The genus is Veronica. Therefore: Veronica Speedwell- Ms. Speedy for short. She is, and I'm not (speedy, that is)

My Trek 7.4 FX is named Pearl. I figured pearls are precious and so is my bike - that and she's pearly white :)

I've often thought I'd like to name my bike(s) but I just have not yet. Except that I just sorta call my bike "bike" as in hey bike let's go for a ride. Or c'mon bike, let's go. Once in a while it'll be, hey girl, let's get a move on. At times when I walk by her I'll pat her on the saddle and say, good bike or nice bike. So I guess her name is bike.

Not very original.

I love all these ideas (and from the other thread too). I guess the right name will just come to me.

My Madone insisted on being named Henry. I have absolutely no idea why. My mountain bike earned the moniker "El Diablo," because, well, he IS the Devil.

My bike is called, "The Ninja," as she is black carbon fiber weave with two sneaky red pinstripes. It just popped into my mind when I first saw the bike, and it stuck. :)

My road bike is Claire. She's also my avatar.

My hybrid bike is Fiona. Novara named the hybrid, Fiona is her model name.

Claire just came to me. I knew that was her name even before I met her. I should also say that the Alex Clare song "Too Close" was playing when I decided on it.

The unridden/unloved mtn bike is Andy. He hangs on a wall and collects dust.

My road bike's nickname is "My Feather" because the carbon road bike is so much lighter than the hybrid.

My hybrid's name is "Molasses" because she is so slow compared to the road bike (but she is still "sweet") . I continue to love my hybrid because it was my first bike (since my childhood steel bikes without gears) and I still use the hybrid bike to exercise my dogs and for light mountain trails.

My first bike didn't have a name, but was still dear to me. My current bike, Cinders, got her name because she came to me coated in black paint, much like the girl in the fairy tale. And like the original Cinders, with a little help from a fairy godmother :-) she transformed into a beauty!

Thought about changing her name to "Ella" but Cinders seems to be what she likes.

We're reshuffling the Bob stable a bit, and I'm inheriting my husband's Rivendell Atlantis. We do that from time to time, we're roughly the same height so generally all we need to do is adjust seat height & stem lengths and we're good to go.

The Atlantis hasn't given me any ideas about what he'd like to be called so he'll simply be known as the Altantis, which is fine. I don't have a name for my Lynskey either, he's just called the Lynskey because he doesn't really answer to Midlife Crisis ;)

Last night my husband and I were out for a ride and I was thinking about a name for my new road bike when it hit me. I have now named my new one "The Happy Pill". The reason I thought of this is because every year that I have to go in for my annual visit to the gyno I aways complain of anxiety around the time of the month. She always wants to put me on what I like to call happy pills. I have done a ton of research on this topic and have found that excercise has the same affect as taken synthetic drugs for this problem. I choose to ride my bike more around my time of the month instead of taking a pill a week before my period. The only side effect might be some soreness that will go away. I'll take that any day than popping a pill that only masks the symptom. This is just what I have found works for me.

Like "The Happy Pill"! Love exercise for all the good it does me. Also I'd add that a lot of mood issues can be improved by a healthful diet.
