Just picked up my new Trek Madone 4.6 last night. I was fitted and tested the bike for about an hour and came right home and rode for 30 minutes. Got back on the the bike this morning and I feel like I'm bruised where I rest on the sit bones. Does this go away? I have some great Pearl Izumi shorts that I got on the Team Estrogen website. I just wonder if I need to get used to riding on a smaller saddle or is the saddle not right for me.

Try it for a few days ....if it doesn't go away then you might need a different saddle. When I first started commuting my butt was sore for the first 3 days very very bad....but eventually went away .

It took me 3 wks for my sitbones to not feel bruised after only riding 30 min.

Currently, my sitbones still feel bruised after riding 2 hrs. But, asking my fellow bikers, they say their sitbones constantly feel bruised when biking (they usually ride 3-4 hours daily)

I have the Affinity saddle and was sore for 3-4 weeks before my butt became used to being on a saddle again.

It definitely takes time for your sit bones to adapt to the pressure of a harder saddle. But it's good that the pressure you're feeling is on your sit bones! It's where the pressure should be. You should adapt over the next week or so and as mentioned above, if you don't you may want to try a different saddle but I wouldn't give up on this one too easily because it sounds like you're sitting on the saddle in the right way and that can be hard to come by.

What they all said, that bruised feeling is normal, and does go away! I usually ride very regularly, bike commuting most days year round, and haven't had any saddle trouble for a long time. But last winter I took a break from the bike for maybe 3 months instead of 6 weeks, and hoo boy, did I feel bruised when I got back into riding. It took a week or so to go away. It also did get better after a mile or two in the saddle.

Chafing and pressure in the wrong places is different, and can feel like raw abraded skin, sore and stinging in the shower afterwards, numbness, or pins and needles. But that very local bruised feeling right over the sitbones is completely normal even with a good saddle.
