Hi Everyone,

Went for my second bike ride today...22 miles...last little part back to my car...stopped to read a sign at the park (to make sure I was heading the right way back to my car) - and ...couldn't get my foot out of the the cage pedal fast enough...went straight sideways into the gravel.....very embarrassing...and got a skinned knee!

No one saw me...I was mad at myself for falling...and mad that I had everything I need to fix my bike in an emergency....but nothing to fix me! - thinking I need to carry some band aids....and put a first aid kit in my car....

Live and learn :)

Welcome to the club!!

Clean it well (it will probably hurt) and keep it covered and moist with antibiotic ointment or aquaphor.

Thankfully it does not sound like a serious crash, but we all crash sooner or later. I like to use vitamin E oil with a tiny amount of Tea Tree oil mixed in to keep road rash moist, and keep it bandaged. It will have less visible scarring if kept moist and covered as opposed to letting it dry and scab over. Heal up quick!

And yea, I keep a tiny tube of neosporin and two large band-aids in my seat bag on the road bike, and a mini first aid kit in the Camelback for MTB rides. And it's always a good idea to have a good sized first-aid kit in the car because you never know what might happen.

I used toe pedal cages in the 80s and never warmed up to them. Too much hassle to flip them over, slide feet in, tighten straps, loosen straps, slide feet out... After my first woops with them I took them off and never looked back.
