Went for my first mountain bike ride since my accident yesterday. Son and I went to check out a trail in Lincoln. It would have been perfect except we couldn't find the mountain bike part of the park. We rode around for about 3 miles and kept hitting signs that said horse or hikers only. I knew it was on the other side of the creek but nothing came up. Frustrated, we left. Back to Omaha for trails.

I'm torn on returning to mountain biking. I love the outdoors but nearly crashed again and it scared me. I keep seeing dollar signs for any accident as I ride. Would have landed backwards on my head if I hadn't thought quick enough to pull the bike up in front of me vertically. Don't know how I remembered that..read it in a book chapter about emergency bail outs if a car door opens out while on the road. Nice to know it actually works.

Son and I came to an agreement that he'd call out what was coming ahead which really helped build some confidence. At least the bike brakes worked perfectly this trip and soon realized I need much better tires than what comes on the bike. Plus I've put 200 miles on the bike since getting it with those tires.

I wish some of the stores in Omaha gave mountain bike lessons as that's really what I need.

I strongly recommend attending a women's mtb clinic if at all possible. Not only are they a lot of fun, but they will focus on getting you comfortable on the skills you need to ride the trails safely and have fun :)
