Do I really need to purchase this? I have a feeling that in a few months I may not need it and it will sit on the shelf. I suppose I can use in on my trainer in the gym.
Thanks

I only use mine indoors, for intervals. But there it is very useful.

I use my cadence sensor to make sure I'm in the right gear. If the cadence falls below 85 and I'm not on a hill, I shift to an easier gear.

No one really needs one, but they can be helpful.

I've found it extremely helpful to make sure I'm gearing efficiently, I definitely recommend it.

Yup...and for tracking my miles/speed on the indoor trainer, too.

I used on one my FCR 1 and ended up taking it off after a couple of seasons of riding with in and not having it work consistantly. For me it was a waste of $$. I believe the problem was that it would not stay lined up. Have considered putting it on my Vita just because I am a gadget girl, but have not been motivated to try it again. I do love the FlightDeck on my Ruby, just wish in would up load the data like my Garmin 305. I end up using both the FlightDeck and the Garmin. Flightdeck for candance and other on the ride info and the Garmin for the stats I keep.

It depends on what you want it for ...

I use it mainly because I'm a data geek, but also as a reminder to keep my cadence up. And when satellite reception is weak - like under power lines or heavy/wet tree cover - it gives speed much more accurately than the GPS.

Deany, I've never had an issue with mine moving around, did you have the zip-ties tight enough? Sometimes the spoke magnet will get loose and I've lost one, but my sender/receiver doesn't go anywhere. I did drown two ... I've heard of other people getting theirs wet with no issue, so maybe Garmin fixed whatever design issue it was that caused them to drown, but I've been careful not to get mine wet since. I take it off if I know I'm going to be riding in the rain, and when I wash my bike I either seal it in plastic wrap or take it off.

I look at my RPM's frequently throughout every ride...so yes, I use mine all the time. Helps me determine if/when I need to shift. Sometimes, I just get "lazy" and don't really pay attention to my RPM's. A quick glance down at my cadence, will tell me a LOT in terms of whether or not I need to shift gears or simply pick up the pace and pedal harder.

I use cadence all the time on the road, it helps my shifting and helps me gauge my rpms. Indeed I tend to look at cadence more while riding than I do my speed. For me it helps, your experience might be different.

I love mine & have it set to beep if I go below 70rpms. I think it saves my knees because I'm a consummate pedal masher.
