For all of you who use clipless pedals on your touring bike, what works for you?

I am trying to decide between the Shimano SPD pedals (M530) with and without (M520 or M540) the platforms.

On my current road bike I have Look Keos and I love them but I wanted to go to SPD on the touring bike so I can wear shoes I can walk around in easily.

TIA for your thoughts!

I have 520s on both mountain bikes and my commuter. They're cheap, durable, and work well. I've never really felt the need for the platforms, but I also never wear street shoes to ride. If I did, I might lean towards the 530s.

I have 520s. I wore some Keen Commuter shoes on tour last year and didn't need any other shoes.

Thanks ladies - that helps me feel that I am on the right track :)

I ride the shimano A530's and the DH has the 520. I like the 530's, sometimes I will clip out and flip my pedal and ride a ways unclipped. I also like never having to think about what shoes I have on. With my tendon issues, having the option has sure been nice.

My shoes. I used them on a 600k ride (a randonneurs brevet) last june couldn't be more happy. They are very confortable. I'm using one number up of my real number because I need to apply insoles.
Ride safe and have fun.

I'm chicken with clipless so I use the Shimano click r's. I like them because they are good for commuting with reflectors built in. They are not too bad to use as platform pedals in a pinch too.

Shoes wise, I have a pair of pearl izumi shoes that I love - so comfy to walk in off the bike https://shop.pearlizumi.com/product.php?mode=view&pc_id=103&product_id=1949403&outlet=&color_code=223

M545s would fit the bill: SPDs with a bit of a platform. I have them on my CX bike. They're kind of hard to find, though.

I have the 520's on both my hybrid and road bike. Works fine for me. Although I have both road shoes and mountain bike shoes, I like that I can use my MTB shoes on both bikes...especially if I think I'm going to be walking up a hill that day. ;) :D
