I know I shouldn't get too caught up with weights . . .
I am buying my first road bike after being a recreational mountain biker for 20 years and yes I get mud on my tires on it.
Wish I could put down another $1,000 to get carbon since I expect to keep the bike a number of years but it isn't possible now. . . . I really disliked the Sora or the Tiagra components.
Looking at Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Dama with partial Shimano 105 - derailers and rear set. It is on sale $940.
Second bike is 2011 Specialized Dolce Elite Compact Apex with full Sram Apex. $990
Third choice was the Cannandale Synapse Alloy 5 with full Shimano 105. $1,300
Both feel about the same. I have some concern about needing the bigger rear cassette from Sram if I begin to start climbing the mountains in the Shenandoah - might or might not.
Right now looking for a bike to get me through some recreational sprint triathlons and for long enjoyable rides.
Any recommendations? Anyone know how much these bikes weigh? Seems like the Bianchi is a bit heavier with the Cannondale being the lightest. I would have to special order the Cannondale at REI.
THX.
