I'm in bad need of a new helmet. Since I mostly mountain bike I'm thinking of getting a xc specific helmet.

Suggestions?

Right now I'm looking at:
Fox Flux W Helmet (http://www.departmentofgoods.com/fox-flux-w-helmet-womens-fxr0234) - Women's
Kali Protectives Avita Carbon XC Helmet (http://www.departmentofgoods.com/kali-protectives-avita-carbon-xc-helmet)

I am open to other recommendations . . .

No feedback on either of those, but I'm interested in others' reviews of them. Like you, I'd like to replace my Giro E2 with something with more back coverage. I tried on a Giro Xar and really liked the fit. It definitely had more rear coverage than my E2.

A friend has the mens' version of the Fox Flux, and loves it.

I have the Fox Flux and like it a lot. It isn't too heavy but I like the added protection in the back, given how often I fall on the trails. I hope that helps a little. It also fits my head far better than Giro or Bell - apparently Fox and Avex helmets fit my head better...

Oh yes, there are little skulls mixed in with the flowers, you really have to look for them but they are there :)

Now I ride Met Crackerjack (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=33059) but now I ordered Giro Indicator (http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/204/giro_indicator_08/giro-indicator-2012-helmet.html).
I really like more agressive competitive looking helmets: Bell Sweep (http://www.bellsports.com/cycling/helmets/dirt/cross-country/sweep) or Giro Athlon (http://www.giro.com/eu_en/products/cycling-helmets/athlon.html) for example.

I don't know my head shape, I would guess its more rounded. I have never "shopped" for a helmet before. I've had 1 helmet that I bought because it was on sale.

I'm thinking about ordering both helmets so I can try them on, then return whichever one I don't like as much.

...They have a lot of nice non-roadie helmets too. (Whatever that means!).

There is additional protection in the back and they also come down a bit further in the back - just a bit of a different design for trail riding. At least that is what I get when I compare my two styles of helmets. I actually never use the "road" helmet - even on the road :)

I just bought a Uvex Onyx, it was on sale :o All helmets make me look like a mushroom, I like the way the Uvex adjusts; it has a little dial thingy in the back.

My Uvex also has a little mesh behind the front vents to keep bugs and debris out - I like that.

I ended up ordering the Kali helmet. I cannot believe how substantial and solid it feels . . . not heavy . . . its hard to explain. I love it!!!
