Some cool mid point pics...

ETA - the window installation project happened when I was at work. I'm glad I didn't see him cutting holes into the side of the van!!

More cool mid point pics...

Flooring is in, insulation and panels in, bench seat in and most of the aluminum framing is in.

At this point the van is about 90% done. Stove, sink, fridge and bed are in place. We are still working on getting covers made for the cushions on the bench and curtains.

Wow! Better than the Sportsmobile version. I love the bar with hooks above the sink. Your layout is very practical.

Thanks goldfinch. When we designed the interior (I say we, but really all I did was give the BF my stamp of approval, he did all the work), the priorities were to make it functional and not overcrowded. He did a great job. The stovetop/furnace that is next to the sink, is a two in one job, very compact and runs on diesl, so no need for an extra tank for propane. The fridge/freezer is a cooler shaped unit that we built a bench around. so we have lots of sitting space without losing all our floor space. It worked out really nicely.

The "garage" will take 5 bikes pretty easily (as long as the people we're riding with aren't super tall) and I can fit my windsurfing gear back there as well.

I love our Sprinter. :D:D

Very cool, wahine -- thanks for posting these photos. I'd been looking at the Sportsmobile site online, just dreaming of a possible major roadtrip sometime in the future. Liked the one with platform bed with bikes below, very similar to what your bf did. The DIY version is certainly the more frugal way to go, and allows you to get exactly what you want. Most interesting!

That is amazing! All of it, the idea and the execution!

We travel in a small Class C RV with our dogs during the summer. We love it.

I second Veronica's idea of a meet up this summer.

Thanks everyone. We are really proud of the Sprinter and shince BF has been posting photos and updates on FB, he's actually had some people ask him if he would consider doing a conversion for them. :) But seeing as it was a full time job for him for about 2.5 months,:eek::eek: He's turned them all down.

And yes, perhaps a cycling trip to Nor Cal is in the future. We are certainly planning a bunch of road trips. The first one is about 3 weeks out, up to the Canadian Rockies, then over to see my family. :D

Neato! DH and I are very envious! If that's your home in the background, it's lovely. We were in your neck of the woods a couple of years ago. I'm envious of that, too!

That is our home in the background. Yes, we are very fortunate to have a lovely home in an AMAZING place. :D

We're renting right now, but I think I'm ready to try to change that. :D:D

Wow, that is VERY cool, Wahine! I'm going to be sure NOT to show this to my H or I guarantee that one of these will be the next thing to drain our savings account! ;)

Very cool pics of the before and after work. Practical and a very good use of space. You can also come all the way down to Florida in your next road trip:D
