Bob Bley, a member of one of my local cycling clubs, was paralyzed from the chest down in a bike accident last year. As part of Mobility Awareness Month, he's currently in the running to win a wheelchair adaptable van that would greatly improve his quality of life.

I know none of you know this person, but please consider taking a moment to read his story and vote (http://www.nmeda.com/mobility-awareness-month/heroes/indiana/bloomington/826/bob-bley) for him. If you use promo code 967, he'll receive 5 extra votes. Voting continues until May 13 so single votes can be cast everyday until then (the website keeps track and will not allow a vote within a strict 24 hours of the previous vote). The promo code, however, will only work once.

Thank you so much for your time and help!

My vote too! I'll share the info with some friends who seem to really like the challenge of helping someone win in online voting. :)

Voted. And I will try to remember to vote everyday.

I worked in spinal cord rehab for a while during my last year in PT school and a bit afterward. It was often sad but also inspirational. I had a few patients like your friend Bob who inspite of their injuries maintained a sense of humour and embraced their new lives as best they could.

Good luck to him.

How do you post this on your FB page?

Nevermind... I see you can share to FB on the voting page.

Even if you don't see that link, you can also just post the URL address in your status update.

I'm really sorry to hear about his case.

I worked in rehab hospital for spinal cord injured adults (in the medical library). A wheelchair, a good one, is a necessity.

The website's having some technical difficulties at the moment, but try again later pretty please!

ETA: It's now working again.

So sad though; I started reading the stories of other "local heroes" competing for the van. There's so many worthy people and so many tragic stories. I want Bob to win, but I'm sure going to pray for all the others. I really need to remember this moment every time I'm frustrated by a minor injury or set back.
