I am heading out to Sunriver, OR next weekend and am hoping to do some road biking while I'm there. I've only mountain biked in the area so I'm not familiar with road routes out there. Any suggestions of routes to ride? I'm thinking in the 20-30 mile range.
I know there are bike paths in Sunriver, but we'd like to get away from the crowded resort. We'd prefer to bike right out of the rental house in Sunriver so we don't have to load the bikes and drive somewhere to start the ride.
I would consider myself an intermediate rider. I can ride forever, but not fast. I can tackle most hills, but not fast. : )
I have two friends joining me on the ride who are fit/athletic but don't ride as often as I do.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

I've done a fair bit of riding in the Sunriver area. Mostly just on the Pacific Crest Half Ironman route. You might want to check out their website and look at that course and the Olympic distance course. That would give you some place to start at least.

Thanks, Wahine. Good ideas. I will start searching there.

Cascade Lakes Highway (the route Wahine is referring too) is still under many many feet of snow. Won't be open until well into May.

I would expect that you could do an out and back on the part closest to Sunriver, or at least use the route to get out of town and add in some other roads to make a 20 to 30 mile ride. You wouldn't be able to do the whole route though as Susan has said.

Thank you, Susan and Wahine!
This kind of insider-knowledge is just what I was looking for.

We ended up riding out of Sunriver onto 97 toward Bachelor, but then hung a left to stay on S. Century Drive because the traffic seemed much lighter going that direction. We swung right to stay on S. Century Drive/Hwy 42 and went to the fish hatchery, where we turned around and went back to Sunriver. About 24 miles total of beautiful, sunny (snow on the sides of the road) riding. It was a very flat route, but a lovely way to spend the morning and get a little fresh air and exercise.
