I'm thinking about the plunge into the land of Garmin. The Garmin Edge 200 is a newer model I believe, the 500 looks like the way to go with all the additional features. I don't care about the HM. I see a couple of you just got the 500. Anyone using the 200? Any recommendations? Thank you

What do you want it for?

If you mainly want mapping and not the training features, you can get a better deal with some of the trail computers.

I'm looking at the training features. I don't think I need the mapping/gps feature.

I looked at the 200 when it first came on the market and concluded that it didn't have all the features that I wanted.

This guy wrote an in-depth review:

http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/08/garmin-edge-200-in-depth-review.html

Toward the end he has a comparison chart for several Edge models, including the 500. He also has a review of the 500 on his site.

I think I rejected the 200 because it was not ANT+ compatible and I wanted to use the Duotrap speed/cadence sensor that snaps into my bike frame.

I have had the garmin edge 500 for over two years and have ZERO complaints. I love how simple it is to use - and how many features and options are available. I like that there are three data screens that are simple to customize. I also like that I can move it from bike to bike with ease - I just purchased and extra speed/cadence sensor. I also use it indoors on my trainer - I can set the backlight to stay lit so it is easy to read indoors. I have had no maintenance issues in over two years of heavy use. I got one for my husband a year ago and he is happy with his as well.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm leaning more towards the 200. I like the price of this unit and the basic features. The review was very helpful. I don't know if I would benefit from all the extras of the 500.
