View Full Version : Posts are next to impossible to submit - anyone else had this issue?

This is my third attempt at a new user name and email address. The other two times I've tried posting I've gotten this message:

you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Has anyone else gotten this? Is it cause sometimes I start a post then take too long to finish it (due to finding a photo or link I want to share or getting distracted in some way or another)? This last time I got a post saying my submission could not be processed cause a security token was invalid.

I don't get why this should be so difficult! I so wanted to be part of a all (mostly) women's forum but this is too much work!

Thanks very much.

Forgot to mention that once I get either of those messages, I can never log in again under that name or email acct. Nor do I hear back from anyone when I try sending a message...although granted I've been trying over the weekend and maybe they don't write back on weekends, I don't know. Ok - sorry to complain but I'm just trying to understand if there's something obvious I'm missing (like no links allowed or if you take longer than 5 minutes once you start writing, they think you're a hacker or something?). Thanks! Please let me know if you have an idea about what this is about.

I think it's no links allowed in your first posts, to keep out the most obvious spammers, but I'm not certain. I'm sure the admins will pipe up. Haven't heard of something like this before.

Hey, welcome to TE! Glad you stuck it out and got through :)

Welcome to TE! There is increased moderation for brand new members to prevent spammers/hacking attempts. This is a great forum so hopefully you will soon decide that it was worth your initial efforts.

The list admins will weigh in once they get a chance to see this, but you also might want to clean out your browser cache and delete your cookies. Sometimes odd things happen if the cache is too large, and also restart your browser.

I'm new too and I just tried to submit my intro post which has somehow vanished. :(

It hasn't, they do moderate the initial posts to weed out spam. It will turn back up once they have a chance to look at it.

Got it. Thank you Catrin! For some reason I didn't see the message when I hit submit. When I posted my second one I saw the message.

Thank you!

Molasses85 - I asked the admin (Jeff) to respond with specifics on how initial posts are moderated and why. However, I've gone ahead and approved your moderated posts.

Apologies for any frustrations you and the OP have had trying to post.

Susan

There could be a combination of factors at play here.

First, if any new members had trouble registering in the past couple of weeks, we had an email configuration issue that prevented new account confirmation emails from being sent, so new members weren't able to log in and post.
Theresse9 was impacted by this configuration problem. We've fixed the problem, so the account activation issues should no longer be occurring.

As far as spam goes, posts from new forums members are automatically held for manual review if they contain any URLs (links). Additionally, we subscribe to a spam filtering service that holds posts for moderation if they contain "suspicious" content, as defined by the spam filtering service, which "learns" from posts reported as spam across all of the participating forums.

Finally, we also look for common spam words (viagra, etc) and hold posts for manual review if they contain any of those words.

After a certain number of posts, a user become trusted and is subject to a lower level of spam filtering. I believe the threshold is 20 posts -- we had to increase it from the old threshold of 4 posts, because spammers were rapidly submitting large numbers of posts and becoming "trusted" forum members even before we had a chance to discover and ban them.

Welcome New Members!! Please bear with the efforts that Susan and Jeff take to keep spammers of our board. This is really a wonderful community of women, so please keep contributing! If you haven't already figured it out, the getting to know you thread is a great place to start.

Thank you Susan for your message and no apologies necessary!

I totally understand wanting to weed out spammers, I just didn't happen to know after I submitted twice.:o

This is a wonderful place!

Thanks again!
