saddle for big butts?

Hi everyone, my lady has a big lovely butt :). I'm trying to figure out what are some comfortable saddles for women like her? The bike is a kona paddy wagon, and the stock seat is terrible (seems to go between the sit bones maybe). I went to the local LBS and they couldn't advise :confused: Budget: $120 or less.

It isn't about the size of her...behind, but the distance between her sit bones, both inner and outer. It sounds like the stock saddle is a man's saddle, they are typically too narrow for women. The purpose of the saddle is to support the sit-bones. The first thing is to determine what those measurements are. I need to run out the door so I can't search for the threads for you, but there are many lengthy threads here about how to take those measurements. I am sure that someone will post a link to those threads shortly.

There are a wide variety of saddles for different needs and sit-bone measurements - and it can take some time to find THE saddle. It isn't fully objective, two women with the same measurements and size can take the same saddle and one may find the saddle to be nirvana, while the other may find it a torture device. The measurements do help to narrow the selection, and you should also search for the "cut-out" test, some of us do require a saddle with a cut-out while others cannot ride them at all.

What she said - there is very little (if any) correlation between the distance between her sit bones and the amount of padding she carries on each side :) And a comfortable saddle is all about supporting the sit bones well. Too narrow saddles are hellish to ride on.

Saddles are very individual, but if you browse around the forum a bit you'll see not only a section devoted to discussing saddles, but also that many of us have information on which bicycles we ride and which saddles are on them, displayed in our signatures. That should give you an idea of which saddles are fairly popular. Specialized I know offers the same models of saddle in 3 different widths, so if you have a Specialized dealer nearby that might be good place to start.
