I want to get fenders for my Madone 4.7, which doesn't have any of those frame holes (braze-ons?) for attaching things like fenders and racks. The fenders would be for occasional use only, so I would like something that's easy and quick to install and remove.

A friend suggested these:

Does anyone here have them? The reviews on REI and Amazon are generally good, though some people find that they slip and rub the tire on rough roads (e.g., after hitting a pothole). Also, some folks feel you need to use zip ties to hold them in place, which defeats the easy on/off design.

Also, these fenders come in two sizes: regular (700x18/23) and XL (700x25/32). I'm thinking the XL would work okay with 700x23 tires -- does that make sense? My current tires are 700x23, but at some point I will probably switch to 700x25.

Thanks!!

Dh and I use these fenders on our road bikes. He leaves his on all the time and never seems to have trouble with them. I only use them in the rain. My front fender always starts rubbing the tire, and it usually finishes the ride in Dh's pannier. I thinks it's because they are plastic and can sometimes twist just a bit to one side or the other.

I don't have any problems with the rear fender. There is some adjustability to them. We run 700x23.

We use the attachments that came with the fenders. I didn't think they'd hold up but we bought our fenders back in '03 and they've held up since then. Very easy on and off (hence the ride home in Dh's pannier ;))

I put these on my son's bike and they hold up okay. They keep the rain off of him and some of the bike (on the front). They move a little, but they adjust very easy, too, so it is not a big deal.

Not a whole lot else out there if you want easy on/off.
