I just got a Garmin Edge 800 and am trying to figure it out. I tried to map out my route for this weekend in Garmin Connect then set out to ride it. The last 6 miles of the route is on the same roads I began the ride on. It would not let me route those last 6 miles. I kept getting some kind of error message. I did not select any of the 3 options, Loop, etc because I am not sure if it applied to this since only the last 6 miles were on repeated roadway.

I put the route in my Edge anyway and needless to say the route stopped at that point and told me my training was over at that point and then I was "off course".

Should I have selected one of those options and if so at what point is it selected, beginning to map out the route? I think I tried that and it was not working out well if I recall. I tried so many different things that I am now not sure what I did or didn't do.

Much thanks!

I've only had my Edge 800 for about a month, but I've had a lot of success mapping out my route with mapmyride.com and then uploading it to the Edge. It hasn't had any issues when part of my route back has been on the same road. Maybe give that a try?

Thank you for your response to my post. I finally got things figured out by playing with it and going through the online instructions. I mapped a ride on Garmin Connects which I find very user friendly then put it into the Garmin. I also mapped a ride while riding then transferred to Garmin Connects. All good there.

While playing with it I finally found the chime when making a turn and displaying what they show on the box cover of a mapped ride while riding. I just put alot of settings "on" and yesterday I got exactly what I wanted, the chime, text at the top telling me the next turn. I got the mph on the map display. I guess somewhere I set the distance wrong because it is showing feet of whatever because sometimes it says 0 and others it is giving me feet of something. So after I figure that out all will be perfect.

Thank you again!!!

I'm glad you were able to get it to work. Enjoy the new toy - I love mine! :)
