:(
Had a snowboard wreck on Tuesday that was painful but didn't seem too bad in the grand scheme of things (not high speed, no jumps, no trees, whatever) but after a visit to urgent care to rule out a torn rotator cuff, I apparently have a fractured transverse process of L3 and a hairline fracture in my humerus. Ugh. I need to find new sports or get better much faster. And probably get a bone density test.
I have a follow-up with an orthopedist and my back guy but blehh, I'm already bored of this! Time for some chocolate (btw, white chocolate M&Ms? Heaven!)
At least, on the bright side, I'd much rather rehab atrophied muscles from broken bones than deal with ligament tears. And the doctor seemed surprised to see both fractures and commented on how well I seemed to be doing (he almost didn't even x-ray the shoulder).

Heal quickly! I broke my humerus when I was 14 riding a horse bareback. Let's just say the body cast WAS NOT HUMERUS!!!!
I think I need some M&Ms too!

M&M party at my house!! That would be awesome :p
Thanks everyone :) I've broken a ridiculous amount of stuff (for me) in the 2.5 years I've lived here, mostly from seemingly innocent stuff (I mean, seriously, who gets a stress fracture from sanding floors??). But our insurance was so crummy when I moved out here that I never found a PCP who accepted it. I guess it's time now, to make sure theres nothing behind all this. (I was starting to think it was pretty Colorado to have a sports-med doc as my normal starting point...!)

Get well soon! And get the bone density test. It doesn't sound healthy to be breaking a ridiculous amount of stuff.

are you new at snowboarding? that sport has a very steep and painful learning curve (at least for me, anyways!) Get better soon!

Nah, I learned about 10 years ago. Conditions were pretty crappy though - I remember looking down and thinking that the snow was blowing up the mountain so fast that I couldn't tell whether I was moving! White sky, blizzard winds, white snow, white ground...boom. I'm pretty proud that I bounced back up and rode down even with my arm in so much pain! Two miles from top to base...and no beer at the bottom, since I had to drive home.
Anyway, the update is that both bones really are broken, though neither is a really big deal. Add those to the list of bones you can do nothing for but watch and wait. My back is spasming a little but the pain has mostly subsided unless I do something stupid. I'm just not allowed to do anything fun for about 3 more weeks. Combination of one low fracture on the left and one upper on the right pretty much rules out any and all sports! Though the arm guy says I can ride a stationary bike once the back spasms stop. Mud season here anyway so that's fine, I guess.
I'm digging up a pile of books I've bought and forgotten about and that ought to keep me busy, as long as I can tear myself away long enough to concentrate on work :)
