Wanted: spare vintage bike parts you may have lying around in good to very good shape

Clearly, I'm trying to do a budget re-build on my '78 Fuji.

I can't afford a lot but I'm trying to get her fixed up.

I would like to eventually upgrade at least, almost all the components. She came stock with the Suntour Spirt (Spirit) group. I think that's the lowest grade group set of that era. I've had some remarkably nice contributions to the project so far. And I'm hoping to scrounge some more.

Do you have an old Quill stem or Old-school road caliper brakes lying around, maybe? A higher quality double-crankset? or Six-speed freewheel? Again, if they're lying around getting dusty - why not?

I'd like to see her come together. Maybe I'm asking a lot of the universe but hey, it's making me happy right now to get her on her feet. Things are kind of --- I don't know. Well, okay.

Again, funds are tight but hopes are high.

Crank length - 165 (Sorry, I forgot to post that earlier.)
Current set up is 50 / 40 (?) tooth crank. (via : classic fuji dot com)

And according to the '78 catalog, it's a - 5 spd. freewheel (14 - 28 T)
The front derailleur is "Spirt" group and rear derailleur is "Seven" group.
Brake calipers -Dia Compe #500 - side pulls - on the low end

All in all, pretty facinating stuff. :D

Do you live anywhere near Las Vegas? There's a bicycle "graveyard" where you can buy bikes for cheap. They probably have TON of stuff for sale and cheap probably. If you don't live near one, ask around your bike club or whatever, there should be some guy that collects old bikes, fixes them up, and sells them. Not at a shop, but usually out of their home. They just enjoy doing it for a hobby. Many times they have the very old bikes when people just upgrade to fancier new ones. I've seen Bianci's, Colorano, and other vintage bikes that is waiting for some TLC at the LV Bike Graveyard.

Ha. No one like that around here. My town has a lot of "roadies". There are only a few vintage bike lovers that I know of. Just enough, that we all know each other by name. LOL. :)

I don't live near Vegas, though. That place sounds cool. I'm keeping my eyes peeled on all avenues, though.
