Some good stuff here...

I already do some of these things. I keep my cycle computer set to average speed and cadence, because I learned long ago that seeing ride time, clock time or mileage makes me feel like I'm making slow progress. Whereas speed and cadence don't psych me out.

Getting ready the night before is also important for me for most rides. I keep my duffle bag packed with most of my cycling stuff all the time, so most of my things are always ready for a ride. I just need to add consumables and things that get washed regularly, like food, beverages, gloves and socks, and I have a better chance of getting out to ride (and leaving the house on time) if I get it all ready the night before.

I've also found that frosted pop-tarts make a good pre-ride lunch if I'm riding in the afternoon. And a cheeseburger with fries from Five Guys is my standard reward for any ride longer than 60 miles.
