I just started riding in July so I would love to hear about what rides you know about for the coming year and what made them so awesome.

In the beginning of October I did a 7 mi bike ride (my first) for Beyond Boobs in Newport News, VA; We did the Fall Foliage Bike Festival in Shenandoah, VA at the end of October which was beautiful but challenging with the hills (34 mi the first day, 28 mi the second); and the first week of November we did the Hero's Crusade in Fayetteville, NC (25 mi).

Blood Sweat and Gears - Valle Crucis, NC

Hard as h3ll - maybe put that one on your 2013 calendar. It's beautiful, with great support.

Tarwheels Bikefest (Hillsborough, NC)

Fun local club sponsored ride. Pretty countryside and lots of homemade baked goodies. We usually ride sweep.

Looking at rides that were offered in 2011, there were:

The Northern Neck River Ride in Kilmarnock, VA
http://www.riverride.org/

Heart of Virginia just north of Richmond (Ashland/Hanover County). http://heartofvabikefestival.org/

Various rides listed here:

And a long list that the Oxon Hill Club updates every year, so the 2012 dates should begin to be added in a month or so.

Many of these might be too far for you, but you might find a few near enough or worth traveling to.

What rides do you have planned coming up this summer - fall? I am going to do a Potomac Pedalers 61 mile ride this weekend and the Air Force Cycling Classic Crystal Ride this June. I'm not sure beyond that :)

If you're talking about the Express/Fast Train to Chesapeake ride this Saturday, I'll be there. Though I think I'm doing the 47-mile ride, since there is no ride leader for the full metric at the PPTC CC pace/Oxon Hill B pace.

On June 2 I'm doing the SMECO 75 bike ride, which starts in Hughesville, MD (southern MD). I'm planning to do the 47-mile version of that. It's on the Oxon Hill events page.

On June 16 is the always-awesome Patuxent River Rural Legacy Ride in Croom, MD. I'm planning for the metric for that one.

After that I have no plans until the Civil War Century in early September, and volunteering for the Southern Maryland Century the next day. Except for Oxon Hill and PPTC club rides, depending on what looks interesting and whether I feel like riding with a group or on my own.
