I need to make my camping reservations. I'm looking for suggestions from those that have camped there about which loop/sites you would recommend for a family with a medium size travel trailer and two young kids.

I'd like something close to the bike trail head.

We are tent campers so I can't offer too much advice as to electric sites. They're all in the same general area though. Just an FYI that while two of the trailheads (Limekiln and Walnut Ridge) are close to the campsites, some of the others are not (those near the north gate). Granted, the two trail systems do link, it makes for a pretty long loop.

Taylor Ridge is further from the trail head of Limekiln (in the Boy Scout Campground), but not THAT far. I think you can ride to that particular trailhead from any portion of the campground in 10 minutes or so. The other end where Limekiln and Walnut trails meet are probably about a mile or so from the campground entrance, perhaps a bit further.

I tent camp, but I prefer Taylor Ridge because of how the sites are situated. Taylor Ridge sites can all take campers, some have concrete pads, some do not. From what I've been able to tell it tends to be quieter than the other portions of the campground and there are more private sites found there.

Which reminds me, since you would be hauling a camper, you will want to come in the West entrance, not the north. There is a covered bridge at the north entrance and you need to be under 9 feet to get under it - and there is a major hill that my CAR doesn't like to climb, and it isn't hauling anything.

We may have to try Taylor sometime. The primitive sites are, indeed, loud. The last time we were out there, I thought I was going to lose my mind. That and the wood we got from the camp store wouldn't burn. We went a night without a fire because of it.

I strongly recommend Taylor Ridge, it is so different as far as the noise level is concerned. You can tent camp on any of the sites, and frankly, I like having access to electricity though you don't have to use it if you don't want to :)

There are several "loops" on Taylor Ridge that I wouldn't recommend, I think they would be louder because of how they are designed, and you do need to choose carefully as some of the sites are almost pure gravel or have large concrete pads, but there are plenty of good sites appropriate for tent camping. I especially like sites 262 and 197? Unsure of the number of the last one but it is quite large and private. Most of the time the sites in the first section of Taylor are empty. The sites with the largest concrete pads are at the end of the Ridge.

I just made our reservations, we'll be staying for a full week :) We got 2 large sites next to each other in the Taylor Ridge loop. I chose sites with cement pads--it makes it a lot easier to set up the traile. I can't wait! I'm really looking forward to this trip.

You will have a great time Limewave, the trails are awesome and have been designated as "Epic" by IMBA. I camp there frequently, at least twice a month in the summer. When I am not camping, I often make a day trip there on Saturdays to hit the mtb trails. It would be awesome to meet you during your trip if our schedules mesh!
