Getting a bike stand -- who has one?

While I anxiously wait for my cracked road bike frame to come back from being repaired by Calfee, I'm thinking of what I can do to minimize the chance of damaging it again (especially since I have no idea what caused the crack in the first place). One thing I want is to get a bike stand to use in my living room. I'm thinking about this one:

I don't need (or have room for) one of those larger racks that holds multiple bikes. The bike lives in my living room, and usually I just lean it against the desk or a cabinet. I figure having a stand for it will be better.

A quick look on the internet found a couple of other brands, including Delta and Saris, but there were some bad customer reviews for them indicating that they are too light to keep the bike upright.

Does anyone have a storage stand like this? Is the Feedback the best one or is there something better?

This (http://www.amazon.com/Gearup-Floor-Ceiling-Rack-Oak/dp/B000TM96MM) is the one I have. It's a lot more money than the ones you linked to, but it's very attractive and functional. It uses compression plates at the top and bottom so you don't have to drill into your floor or ceiling. It would look fine with just one bike, but there's room for a second one if you add to your stable.

What about wall or ceiling hooks?

Well, I have the Delta one with wheels and I don't use it. No matter what I do it wants to roll on the smooth surface of my basement floor. Not recommended. I also have Saris one similar top the one you kinked to, but not quite the same. The one I have will not balance a bike. I would be skeptical. I have wondered about the first one you linked and think it would be the best. I have a small rolling stand similar to the Delta at my summer house. It's OK, but it is a PIA because it does tend to roll a bit every time you put your bike on/off the stand. Not sure what benefit this offers over just leaning it against the wall though.

I have 2 bikes on it, and it stands against the wall in a narrow hallway. Aside from taking up space in an already narrow hall, it works fine, and my guests have been trained to inhale as they walk by. LOL!

This gets them both up, off the floor, and secure enough that they won't tip over if knocked accidentally. The rolling stand, on the other hand, will not prevent tip over if knocked hard.

View your bike as an art piece, and display it on the wall if you can. It's more secure, and besides, it's easier to sweep or vacuum that way too.

Right now it's got my Felt F 5 and my Trek mountain bike on it. We also have hooks on the ceiling of the garage to hang bikes from, so eventually the plan is for my F5 and hubby's F5 on the stand and the other bikes hanging. Also thinking of getting a 2nd one of these. Not sure which way we're going to go yet.

I have several of the first one you listed (the Feedback Sports Rakk), and it works great! I've never felt it to be unstable, I always take it camping with my and they have served me well. I honestly do not think it is necessary to buy anything more expensive than this one and highly recommend it.

I did finally purchase a 2-bike wall rack to save space, but not because I disliked the Feedback.

I have something similar to what Oakleaf has, a Minoura bike tower (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/minoura-bike-tower-10-bike-stand/) (I got it because it is white). Topeak (http://www.amazon.com/Topeak-Dual-Touch-Storage-Stand/dp/B000FIE4WC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1324347439&sr=8-3) has a similar thing, in black.

The Topeak one is neat because you could potentially add additional cradles and store up to 4 bikes. I had in a former apartment. Parts for the Minoura are harder to come by.

Have you ever seen a superstand? I love them, lightweight and stable, don't roll out from under the bike, don't tip over. We order ours from QBP so you lbs can get them or I can get you one. about $48 retail. This is my friends commuter - Dorothy

I love your bike, with the handlebars I might even be able to make a LHT fit me. I am putting your bike on my wish list. I am still relatively new to biking, what do you call handlebars that swoop back that way?

My guess is they didn't tighten it down properly. Or maybe they didn't put it on a joist and it punched through their ceiling? Hard to say, but mine doesn't move around at all. I wouldn't use it if it didn't seem secure. My carbon bike's on the bottom just because I ride it more, DH's heavier (but not super heavy) aluminum road bike goes on top.

It's hard to say, I wouldn't want to make any guarantees and then get proved wrong, but I'm totally confident in mine.

What we like about the LHT is how is works for so many riders, some who only commute and other who travel all over the world.
Anyway, if you are ever close to Boise let me know, we are a "come ride a Surly" store, we just got six LHT's in sized from 50 to 58
The swept backs on Dorothy are the Albatross bar, this pair is cr-moly but they are also made in alloy. The all rounder is another swept back. Both from Nitto

We gave ours rack just like this to our son as he needed a space saver. As a college student living with other college students it has been a great rack, he hasn't had any issues with it falling over. Of course, he doesn't have a carbon fiber bike either :) he does put his Santa Cruz MTB and his Marin commuter on it though.
