I was wondering what kind of trainer workouts most of you do. Sometimes I try to do intervals, but boy is it miserable up there. I'm always tempted to just spin easy for an hour but I can't imagine that does much good at all. I can't quite put my finger on what's so awful about the trainer. I generally don't mind indoor cardio workouts - the trainer's so much worse for some reason.

I do have rollers, which are much less miserable except I can't stand the constant fear of death for more than 20 minutes or so. I haven't even attempted rollers since I got my clipless shoes.

Moving is always better than not moving. There are days I spin easy for 30 minutes during a favorite TV show. Sometimes I'll even do a harder interval during the commercial break, just to change it up.

And other times I do a Spinervals DVD. It's basically a workout video for your spin bike.

Trying to do intervals completely on my own would probably not be a successful endeavor for me. I need someone telling me what to do :)

Watching TV/DVDs while on the rollers is the only thing that keeps it tolerable.

My coach assigns my workouts, sometimes easy rides, sometimes intervals of different lengths and intensities. An easy ride doesn't do much to raise my HR, but at least riding on the rollers works on my form and balance.

There are several different indoor training videos. Spinervals (spinervals.com), The Sufferfest (thesufferfest.com), The Rides Series (endurancefilms.com), Carmichael Training System, Ride Fit. Or you can make up your own.

Check out the TE December Indoor Cycling Challenge thread on the main board. Beginning around page 4 of that thread, many of the "challenged" started noting what they are doing on their trainers and how they are keeping their sanity. :p
