Yesterday I found a pug getting ready to wander into the desert & into the jaws of some hungry coyotes. I could not read his ID tags because they were worn & scratched. Luckily, a man came by who knew where he lived. We got him home & my husband re-secured the chicken wire (!) that the owners used to keep him in.
I checked my dog's tags & they're almost illegible too! I put the info out on my dog forum & they said Boomerang Tags are the best. Lifetime guarantee on some of them. Not bad pricing, if you consider the number of times you replace tags.
There's my Monday $.02.

I have found Red Dingo (http://www.reddingo.com/products/tags/) tags to be exceptionally good!

Red Dingo tags are beautiful ... but ours wore out after about two years and were quite illegible. Thankfully, that coincided with a move so it was time for new tags anyway.
Microchips are a great backup plan.

Ice is chipped and wears a Fetching Tag. They are made of aerospace quality aluminum, lightweight but thick and almost indestructible. Ice's is a yr old and still looks new.
Plus the company does a lot for rescue/animal welfare by donating portion of profits and/or making tags for rescue orgs... love the attitude :)

Road ID now makes ID tags for dogs -- the Scout ID.

I have Zack's chip number on his ID tag along with the phone number.
