Just curious if it's worth taking a ride to my LBS to see if they will have a sale on bikes. I know they had a big sale in Sept but I wasn't in the market for a bike at that time. I could technically wait until after the holidays and/or closer to Spring but I'm impatient and dreaming of a shiny new bike under the tree. Is Black Friday a good time to go bike shopping?

If you ask me Black Friday is NEVER a good day to go shopping. Good luck with your bike search though, I hope you find your dream bike on sale and discounted as well.

I have never gone to the LBS on Black Friday but, I would guess they may have better deals (on bikes) after Christmas. Jan. or Feb.

At least in our area, I start to see discounted bikes in December, mostly for older models. If you're willing to buy a 2011 or 2010 bike, you might get a decent deal. Don't be afraid to haggle a bit.

Sales in bike shops are different than any others, in my experience... bike shops carry smaller inventories, so what you find on sale is very limited (the 58cm frame or a very small one). They won't have, say, all Cannondale Synapses on sale. They may one on sale, in an odd size. Worth checking, but you really need a lot of luck to find the bike you want in the size you need.

Last year's models have been on sale since this year's models came out. Waiting a few months probably means you miss the chance to buy them because they're sold out. Last year I saved 20% on a 2010 bike that I bought in September.

Follow your LBS on facebook or twitter to find out about sales, or get on their promo email list.

I received a coupon for 25% off any accessory, valid this week (Mon-Fri) only. I used it to buy the gloves I had just decided to buy on Monday morning.

I've never heard of a small business doing Black Friday sales. The closest is that REI is doing 30% off certain things for the winter sale.

Maybe if you want to buy a Wal-Mart bike...

If you have a relationship with your LBS go ask them what they might be able to do for a price on a bike on their floor. We would often be able to work out something in a one on one relationship. Do note that the mark up on bikes is not very much, as the owner of a small shop, it is difficult to discount like the larger shops. Sometimes it is easier for us to discount accessories or do a package discount to spread the loss of money over more than just the bike (yes, savings to you are loss of money to shop):) but at the same time selling at a discount to loyal customers is often just fine as we know they appreciate our being there for them.

I am new and I dont know much about features components vs pricing..but I just came across the Performance Bicycle site where they have the
2011 Fuji Finest 3.0 Women's Road Bike for $ 500 for this weekend. I wish I had the money.

Actually when you go to checkout it comes down to $442 + $17 shipping...

Don't forget sales tax.

Off course :) $499 with tax....I think its a good deal.. even though I know it is far from being a racing bike and the components might be on the cheap side.. I believe it would be a good buy for an entry level bike at least for someone starting and not really sure if cycling's what they really want to do. Even though I know I will continue riding and been eye balling Trek,Bianchi and Scott..if I had the money right now..I would get this Fuji.

Thanks All! I didn't see anything on their site or on FB but it may be early yet. It may be worth it to cruise by. Most people will be hitting the malls so hopefully I won't hit any traffic.

Guillana - maybe you should start hinting to someone that the Fuji would make a great gift :)

If you are in the Phoenix area, the Pearl Izumi Outlets store is selling a lot of previously marked down stuff at very big discounts on Black Friday.

The performance stores usually do a decent black Friday sale...I used to live about 3 blocks from one. And I'll second the PI suggestion. I don't know about anyone else though (bike-wise).

We stopped into one of local bike stores last week and were asking about possible sales on trainers. This is a "local Chain" (I think just several shops aroung our area) and they said that there should be some black friday sales. They just weren't sure what might be covered yet. But I think they were talking about trainers and other accessories, not necessarily bikes.

My local Trek store had a big black Friday sale last year, and that is when I got my Madonne. I can't remember the percent off. Mine was last year's model so was discounted more than the current stuff.

Thanks for your responses.

I just called my LBS and hey said that they have 10% off on all 2012 bikes from now until the end of the year. Not too bad.
There were better deals in Sept but I doubt that they will start discounting again until next Sept so I may as well pull the trigger!

I've been thinking about a Specialized mountain bike, the local Specialized dealer has a 2012 Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc 29er for $629.99 +tax(mrsp $690)and a 2012 Specialized Hardrock Disc 29er $529.99(mrsp $580).
