The idea for this was Brandi's, so all credit to her in this thread:

http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=45683

The idea is to have a specific time when the TE community gathers together, virtually, to raise a glass to one another in support and camaraderie. Perhaps we post a pic of ourselves with our frosty cold one. Who's in?

:D

St Arnold's is one of my absolute favorite breweries! I haven't had one of their beers I don't like, Fancy Lawnmower is delightful after a long mountain bike ride. Austin is becoming a hotbed of Microbreweries, I am huge craft beer fan so this pleases me to no end. :D CHEERS!

I'm more of a red wine person and don't really drink much beer. But when I was up there in Sept, I did bring back a case of Bell's Lager of the Lakes, and Keweenaw Widowmaker Black Ale, which I really like in the wintertime.

Any suggestions on a date?

Weekday/weekend?
Time of day?

I expect we west coasters may need to start early (oh the horror) to dovetail with the east coasters. Overseas folks - may be tough to work out a time but we could share a cup on the same day in spirit.

bmccasland
11-17-2011, 12:25 PM
A weekend day, such as saturday, might help the "early" drinking for those of us on the left coast.

It's beerthirty somewhere. :rolleyes::D

How about a Sunday - the 20th or 27th? Say a 3 or 4 pm start for West coasters/6 for Easterners.

How a 24-hour beer fest on the idea that everyone world-wide will experience beer*-thirty at least once in that period?

It's not like this group has troubles finding things to talk about.

And I bet more than one will have multiple beer-thirties.

*Or beverage of choice.

I wish I could go to Wisconsin to do this. Love that Wisconsin beer.

SadieKate
11-17-2011, 04:20 PM
Well, not all the world celebrates US Thanksgiving which means their work might affect the party.

Starting on a Saturday about 3 pm Pacific Time? Would that allow everyone to have non-work time for this event?

How about the 25th so it is the long weekend for us US peeps? You never know what glimpses of their families we might catch in the pics.

And, where's Brandi in all these decision-makings?

BTW, I'm going into training. I took a look at our liquor cabinet and decided we needed to do more than just look like lushes.

We now own a martini shaker, 2 kinds of vermouth, 2 kinds of bitters, Maker's Mark bourbon flavored cherries (cuz Red Dye No 40 is OK when it's bourbon flavored), and 4 cocktail recipe books.

I'm perfecting my hot toddy recipe tonight.

Thank you for the honor of being the idea person on this. Ok So are we doing this on Thanksgiving? Let's make it over thanksgiving weekend that way all can put in when they can. How does that sound? I have to work from 26-1st that way for Thanksgiving works cause I am just cooking. And I plan on having a beer or 2 while cooking. I have micro brew I brought back from Tempe AZ called "kilt lifter".. Looking forward to having it with you all. So get your kilt's on!

This sounds like fun, I'm in too.

Maybe I'll go get a growler from the local brewery just to change it up a bit, otherwise it'll be Irish stout or good IPA from Oregon (with very few exceptions, I'm disappointed by East coast IPAs)

sookiesue
11-19-2011, 07:33 PM
Carlotta - Can you tell me what those exceptions are? I am in Oregon and am very spoiled by all the fantastic IPA. My father in law is in Maine, and has become fond of our IPA and can't find anything close to being as good on the East Coast. Any suggestions for him? (and for us when we go visit and are stuck with less-than-hoppy-goodness!)

Oh - and I love the Cyber Beer fest! I will be sure to raise a glass during next weekend, and it will certainly be an Oregon IPA!

Crankin
11-20-2011, 04:58 AM
Well, I might just drink a wheat beer, as so far, I don't like any of the "local" beers I've tried.
Kilt Lifter? I'm intrigued, only because Tempe is my adopted hometown; I like the name.
So, on Thanksgiving? I can easily drink and cook.

I grew up in Portland, so you understand my definition of good IPA (people out here try to argue that there is lots of good East Coast IPA.....). I haven't done exhaustive sampling, but here are a couple I'll drink:

*Dogfish head 90 minute IPA. This is apparently the gold standard of EC IPAs. It's pretty good. 120 minute is hoppier (too much, and I like hops, it's just not very well balanced), 60 minute is IPA for people who don't really like/know IPA.

*Magic Hat seems to be making different IPAs this year and calling them "_________ On Tour." I've had the Blind Faith and hIPA and they're both pretty decent.

*Philadelphia Brewing's Newbold is ok, the BF likes it, but it's not citrusy at ALL which is something I love in my IPA. Not sure how far they distribute either.

*Not EC, but Sierra Nevada's Torpedo is great, and it seems like it should be find-able in Maine. It's certainly well-distributed here.

That said, we can get a number of good West Coast IPAs at our beer store (Caldera, 21st Amendment, Rogue), so more often that that we're drinking those...

I may be drinking heavily on Thanksgiving since out oven just crapped out again. Right now our choices are: order a pre cooked meal from the local grocery, do the Texas thing and find an outdoor cook top, a big pot, a lot of peanut oil and fry the sucker, or butterfly the turkey and cook int hours and hours on an outdoor barbeque grills with only one functional burner or get really creative and so sushi or something.

I would so love to have a functional oven. Especially now with family coming.

Currently enjoying a post ride, sunday evening ranger creek mesquite porter which is very nice.
