Finally out of the Navy and drove a uhaul cross country from Virginia to Portland. He has never been west of Kansas before but has a couple of friends there from the Navy and really wanted to try it. He called me and remarked how everyone rides bikes and how many bike lanes there are. Apparently the area beats the midwest and east coast and could I please send his birth certificate and ss card so that he can become a resident asap.:D. I am flying up Christmas and certainly looking forward to it.

hey that's great. Portland is a wonderful town for bikes and young people (and old people too) We'd live there too if we hadn't put down roots in Seattle.

Both of my kids live in Portland, I enjoy going over as often as I can. We love riding bikes over there and wish Boise was a forward thinking with the large bikes painted on the streets so if you are in a car you can't help but notice you are on a bike designated route.

It is a very nice state. :)

Surely he has military and/or tax documents that will help.

as much as i miss kansas city in many ways, i am so glad we landed in portland. next week marks our 6th anniversary here, and we still remark on a regular basis how happy we are we're here.

glad your son is finding it to his liking as well, and hope you do manage to get out for a visit! bring a good raincoat - the rain will surely have kicked in by then (though it's been a beautiful sunny fall so far!)

Portland: Where you shovel more rain than snow.

:D

Moving north to the Seattle area again when I am done overseas. From the PDX area and miss it.

Your son will love P.town. Our daughter went to school there (well, 1st career). She loved it, we loved visiting and felt she was safe there too. She has moved to central OR with her Portland born/raised husband now, but I think they will be back sometime.

Keep us informed on his new home. And enjoy your visits.

Well I finally made it here. It's absolutely beautiful! I think when I retire from teaching next year, I am moving close to my son! He lives only 15 miles from Team Estrogen.

And I just want to say that Oregon is a beautiful state! The rain is different than it is in Missouri. Hard to describe other than it really wasn't bothersome. In Missouri, you don't even want to get out in it, but in Portland it was very gentle. I walked in it every day and many others were out and about too. I also noticed that EVERYONE looked healthy. My son pointed out that there are very very few fast food places like McDonalds. I ate better and felt better as there were so many choices for a healthy lifestyle. I don't think I will be known as the "weird teacher on a bike" there. I'm going to get stuff out of my house, sell large pieces of furniture and get there as quick as I can!!!:D

smilingcat: I passed Troutdale yesterday and I couldn't place it. I knew I had heard of it before. Now I see why!lol
