I just broke through the 2K barrier this past weekend and I have a new weight loss photo to show. I have now lost 100 pounds since I started dieting May 2004. The first photo in the set was taken May '04 pre-diet, second was June '05 pre-bike, and the last was taken this weekend Nov '05. I don't think I'll be wearing the dress much longer as it was literally hanging off of me. :D The ladies at my doll show were teasing that next year I need to get a dress that actually FITS!! :D
I'm already going to need to take in my bike shorts that I made earlier this year, of course I'll need to partially take them apart to do that, but better to take something in because it's TOO BIG than not be able to wear something because it's TOO SMALL! :D

I'd keep that dress, as a reminder of what you achieved. It'll be fun to try it on once in a while :)
I have a pair of old jeans I keep just to try on once in a while for yuks - they literally fall off me now ! :D :D :D

WOW from me, too. What an inspiration you are! I'm with Irulan--maybe it's a little wasteful, but sometimes life calls for a grand gesture. You could save a piece to use in a patchwork memory quilt!
Good holidays everyone.

Thanks everyone! I haven't felt this good in a LONG time.
Bikerz, congrats on your 45 pound loss, if you don't mind, how much more do you have to lose?? I've got at least another 70 pounds to get back to where I was before I got hurt. I know it's still OFFICIALLY over weight, but I'll be happy to see a size 16-18 again and gladly NOT compain. :D I looked good as far as I'm concerned. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a361/mary9761/misc%20pics/maryandalicec.jpg Sorry, I don't have a different picture on disc of me at that weight yet.

I agree with latelate--you look much younger now. Congratulations. :D I've given away most of the clothes I wore two years ago--falling off. What an amazing feeling after a lifetime of too tight.

And... PLEASE get rid of that dress! Treat yourself with something that fits! When you lose weight... since you don't want to treat yourself with food... you treat yourself with NEW CLOTHES!
Now, get to shopping! Go find some skinny clothes!

Thanks again everyone, believe it or not that WAS my smile at that time in that first photo. I didn't tell my son that day (it was his wedding day) but I was not feeling well at all. I had already started haveing chest pains and was having trouble just walking etc. I ended up in the hospital later that week with a heart catheterization (negative thankfully) and then put on the cardiac and diabetic diet. I was miserable :(

I got close a couple weeks ago when I made a 75 mile ride. If the daylight and my knees had cooperated, I REALLY wanted to stretch the ride. Other than the colder weather making my knees uncomfortable, I think I COULD have done it.
I WILL have my first century as soon as possible next season unless I can figure out a way to sneak it in during the winter. I have 7 metrics under my belt now and I wanted to get another last Saturday, but again daylight (lack of) and cold knees slowed me down. If I can manage it all I WILL try for at least ONE more metric before the end of the year.
YOU inspired me to try my first. Remember, I want to be YOU when I grow up. :D

well shoot - does that mean I gotta grow up now?? ;) - as for riding in the cold, it just takes longer and yeah - that daylight thing is kind of a bear to work with but I have all the faith in you girl!
Don't tell Surly but it was 22 with a wind chill of 18 during my morning commute today - I looked like the Michelin Man!!!

Mary thank you for your post. I was just mumbling and grumbling to my friends that I don't fit into any of my "cute" clothes after having my baby girl. You post has inspired and encouraged me to keep living healthfully.
Here's a pic of my daughter Sage (6weeks today) and of me, 9 months pregnant with her at my last bike tour before delivery.

What a gorgeous baby girl. She's just a little younger than my newest grandson Steven. He was born Sept 27.
Enjoy every moment at this age, she'll be grown before you know it.

I'd keep that dress, as a reminder of what you achieved. It'll be fun to try it on once in a while.
I have maybe a better idea of what to do with the dress. Keep it, yes! But depending what material it is, perhaps you could have all or part of it made into a jersey? You might have to sew a light liner material into it underneath, but you would be able to wear it as a flag of your weight loss success. What do you think?
And hearty congratulations to you, Mary. You're so awesome and what an inspiration for us! What a beautiful person you must be.... :)

Although I suggested keeping the dress as this fabulous trophy/reminder... I do like bikeMomma's idea of making a cycling jersey from it at some stage - is it the right material?
mary9761
12-06-2005, 10:11 AM
Hmmm, I may have to check that, there certainly should be enough FABRIC to make a jersey out of it. Of course it may be SPRING before I'd be able to wear it. LOL... I would likely have to line part of it as it's a bit sheer. Although it IS a busy pattern, you couldn't see my bra through the material when I was wearing it and I wasn't wearing a slip... I know TMI :p
I do think I'll make a jersey out of it! I'll post photos when I get it made... Then when I'm showing off the photo I carry with me of me IN the dress, I can really mean, this is before [pic] and I'm AFTER.. :D It's all the same dress LOL...

Awesome! Both RoadRaven and Jo's comment about keeping it sorta sparked the lightbulb (did somebody else say it too?? I wanna give full credit....). My mom's an excellent seamstress, so that helped the train of thought. I'm so glad you like the idea....and like llbloomer said, a new pic of you in it will complete the saga.
If it's a "busy" print, perhaps just make the bodice part from it, like a vest, but with a zipper and contrasting collar in a soft non-itchy material (don't wanna itch around the neck). The sleeves can be the same color as the collar, assuming you'd make a long sleeve jersey. Don't forget breathable wicking-type material for the liner and elastic or zippers for the back pockets.

The dress is 100% Rayon so it's a synthetic material all the way. I can hardly wait to see how it turns out now, but I've got several holiday projects I need to work on ASAP before I try the jersey pattern with the dress.
I wonder if Penny has any experience working with Rayon and jerseys??
