From Hybrid to Road Bike?

Hi ladies---I have an opportunity to upgrade from my Bianchi Boardwalk hybrid (with mavic racing rims and vittoria tires) to a built from scratch road bike---my LBS ordered the wrong size frame for a triathlete.

Here are the items: Guru 4lb custom litespeed steel frame (it fits me perfectly), Shimano Ultegra components, carbon seat stays and drop bars, and my own mavic wheels).

Cost: $900

What do you guys think? The Bianchi Veloce was on my wish list but for the cost of a Veloce I can get the Guru bike plus the Bianchi Brava for hubby....

My nine-year-old daughter wants to grow into my Boardwalk as long as I put the original hybrid tires back on.

This GURU bike sounds exciting--I just don't know much about road bikes.

That sounds like a great deal. I know nothing about that bike, but I do love my Veloce that I got as my first road bike this spring. About twice the price of the bike you've been offered though.

I guess if it's a perfect fit, and you ride it and love it, go for it!

It just occurred to me, it was almost exactly 2 years ago that, after toodling around on my hybrid for a couple of years, I tried my husband's new road bike. I wouldn't give it back to him until I got one my own. The rest is history. :)

The Guru's I've seen are very nice. If this is the Newsteel road frame (Litespeed is a whole 'nother brand), I'd go fo it. If it is a tri-bike, you may want to reconsider as they are a different beast than a road bike. Sounds like kharma!

The GURU frame is that of a road bike. How are tri-bikes different?

Basically, the geometry of the tri bike makes it easier to run after you get off it- it preserves your running muscles, but isn't as comfortable, some would say, for long distance road riding.
