As my DH said yesterday when I collected him from his week long bike tour. How is it I can ride across the entire state of Oregon with no problem and you go to one wedding and are now on crutches? At my age I should know better than to dance with high shoes, even if they have a wedged heel. I managed to "fall off" my shoe, heard a pop on the top of my left foot. I am hoping I didn't break a bone but my entire foot is swollen and purple. Of course is the same leg that has the achilles tendon problem and the bad knee so I know it is all connected but damit, October is some of the best riding weather.
So I am doing the ice, have it wrapped and keeping the weight off plus soaking in Ebsom Salt. Any other suggestions??
Thanks

Ow ow ow.
Are you already seeing a PT for the Achilles? Call your doctor tomorrow and get a script for PT for the new injury (assuming it's sprained and not broken).
As someone who's sprained an ankle several times and never properly rehabbed it ... those things can become chronic really easily. You need to rebuild/retrain not only the muscles but the sense organs in the tendons.

Thanks Oakleaf, not currently seeing the PT but I do have one So I will call & go show him my latest injury, was saving my pennies for more ASTYM on my tendon as it pretty much cured the right Achilles tendonitis and am swearing off dancing in shoes from now on

Have you been to the doctor? X-rays? A pop, followed by swollen and purple would indicate a likely broken bone to me. But I am not a doctor, just had a few broken bones, all of which involved a pop, swelling, and purple.

+1 on what Tulip said. Even if you don't think it's broken, go get it X-rayed.

I expected her doctor would probably order an X-ray before PT ... but FWIW, about half the times I've sprained my ankle (and every time I've sprained it badly enough to be visibly bleeding inside), it's popped audibly.

I will avoid the doctor, if I can. I hate paying all that money when I am 99 percent sure it isn't broken. My brother in law is an orthopedic surgeon but he does hips and knees. Swelling is coming down but I will give it another 48 hours and then if still really painful I will break down and go.

I'm sorry! I'm glad you're planning on see a MD if there isn't improvement in 48 hours. I recently broke a few bones in my foot, and I would not have been able to tell the difference between a sprain and a fracture myself. As long as you don't need surgery, the main thing is knowing if and how long to be non-weight bearing and what kind of recovery time you need to allow yourself. You might need some type of boot as well, which will make getting around easier, but let's hope you are right and there is nothing broken.
Good luck. You are doing the right things for now.

Well Hell, my BIL the ortho, says it is a jones fracture... So staying in the boot for another month. I have ridden my bike very slowly, little resistance, on flat roads and it doesn't hurt - I think because I am primarily pedaling with my right leg. Of course I haven't gone more than 5 miles. So back to the RICE method and upping my calcium. My daughter pointed out that I can certainly do upper body and sit ups, etc. - my favoirite (not) We have a great SUB 24 planned for next weekend to a hot springs, I will be driving the sag wagon :(
