there are bags of candy corn on display. Yikes! My weakness. I haven't broken down yet and bought a bag....but...

terrible stuff...pure sugar...why does it have to taste so good? :p

The less you eat of it, the worse it tastes when you do eat it. Seriously.

I wish that were the case. I went all last year without eating one piece of candy corn. I bought a bag a week ago thinking it would prove that I didn't care for it anymore, and I ate the whole bag in ONE afternoon. :(
It was soooo good...

Hi Bike Writer, I feel you. I have a sweet tooth and once I eat sugar I crave it even more! I have to not "make eye contact" with it. If I don't see it I won't buy it. This means I have to look away often at this time of year. Good luck and stay strong.

Absolutely true.
I'll go off candy for a while, and the next time I eat a piece it is sickeningly sweet.

I have found that same thing to be true- if I can avoid it for a while it does taste over sweet- almost a burning sensation in my mouth. But I do have a sweet tooth and have a hard time just avoiding it.

As to the candy corn- my last experience was that it tasted good... for about a handful, but then it was kind of disgusting but I kept eating it. Can you take a handful and give the rest away?

"eye contact" that is too funny and it's kinda what I do too. That plus walk by it fast.

I also have the same tendency as TriGirl, once there is a bag around it disappears in no time. Something about them is addictive once you cave in, for me anyway.

That would be me in a nutshell, though I haven't bought one yet I imagine that before the season is over I will. Get the fix and be on with it till the next year I guess...

I used to have an addiction to candy corn(eat the whole bag and then be sick on the couch) and I gave in and bought a bag last week, but I bought the Publix(grocery store brand) candy corn.

I had 2 and was disgusted with how sweet it was and put it down. I tried this a few more times over the next 2 days- but each time was disgusted.

I ended up bringing them to work for my boss to give to his kids(but they are still on his desk and he is eating them!!)

I like candy corn, but what I REALLY like are the little candy corn pumpkins. Only Brach's, though. I haven't bought any yet but it's only a matter of time.

I hear you, sister! I LOVE those stupid candy pumpkins...just like candy corn but 5x better!

At the cash registers in the work cafeteria they now have little baggies and a bin of candy corn. I have to face it every day, and it's a killer!

I have to keep to a low-carb diet because of my PCOS, and I wish I were one of those people who didn't love sugar or had it taste yucky after being away from it. That would make my life so much easier. But no...everytime I eat any sugar it's like crack. The rush comes, and then that happy feeling. :(

You all can have my share, plus the peeps at Easter. Those things just gross me out!

Me too! And totally agree that Brach's is the only brand for either of those things. Brach's halloween candy has a honey taste to it. The other brands have no taste and are just sugary. I wish the taste repelled me but it's quite the contrary.

I hate candy corn on its own, but mix it with peanuts and I'm in heaven. Together, they basically taste like a Payday candybar.

When I was an apartment dweller, I could avoid Halloween candy because no kids came to the door. Now, I'd be the scourge of the neighborhood if I didn't have candy on hand. If it's in my house, I'll eat it. And what is it with the secretary in my office? She, herself, is on WW, but she thinks nothing of bringing in bags of candy to leave sitting out for the rest of us. I've asked her to stop, but she won't. I realize that it's my obligation to "just say no," but it sure is a lot easier when it's not right in front of me.

Agreed about the Peeps, can't bring myself to eat one. But then again I really don't like marshmallows unless they are homemade.

Add me to the "weakness for candy corn" club. :o I will be SO glad when Halloween is over, because this is the only time of year that I crave candy corn...BADLY. So far, I have gone through 3 (yes, I said 3!) bags and we're not even into October yet! Granted these 3 bags were the small Brach's bags on sale at Walgreen's for .79 cents. Two of them were the candy corn, and the 3rd bag was the Autumn Mix (mmmm...pumpkins!!!). I bought them to keep in my desk at work, but none of the bags lasted for more than a day. Then I get so mad at myself afterwards. Yet I know that I won't make it to Halloween without going through at least 1 more bag. I literally find excuses to stop at Walgreen's...somehow I can justify buying a bag if I'm going there for something else.

Ladies, just recall how really bad for you high fructose corn syrup is and you'll never want another one....

I got sick on s'mores at girl scout camp, now I can't even look at a marshmallow without gagging. Ahhh, the memories of youth. :p

Brach's don't have HFCS, just normal corn syrup...not that it makes them better for you :)

I bought a bag at lunch thanks to this thread. Thankfully they didn't have the pumpkins, so I won't scarf them all down at once.

I love it how it's been less than 24 hours and we have 20 posts about candy corn! Ha ha ha...

Marketing Satan. That's who puts the candy, and seasonal candy corn, right near the store check outs where you can see them to buy.

I sure wish my sweet tooth would not have so many readily available tests to put it through.

Yeah... let's not even get started about those bags of mini candy bars for Halloween.

However, I do love Fall and Halloween.

Honey crisp apples are in season now around here. Excellent apple. But so are the carmel apples with peanuts too. Not too far from the candy corn, ya know lol:rolleyes:.

Yum. Honey Crisps are the best apples. I had my first of the season today. It was better than candy!

Try fried apples:) Cut into wedges, saute in a little butter, add cinnamon and sweetener if you wish (maple is nice...). Better than candy corn:)

We had a bowl of candy corn and peanuts at work today. Why or Why do they do that to me???? I don't think the protein in the peanuts won out over the sugar! Yes, just like a Payday Bar!

That sounds way too good. I'm sure I could eat myself sick with that combination. I'm going to really have to work hard not to think about it.;)

Yummy honey crisp apples! They crunch when you bite 'em.

I have a fall mix side dish with apples, carrots and raisins. It's tasty and makes for a very colorful presentation on a plate. Goes good with chicken or pork for an entree. I saute or par cook the carrots, add the apples in the last five minutes and the raisins in the last minute or so. You can saute with butter, salt, pepper and a dash of cinnamon and or fresh grated nutmeg. If you are so inclined you can flambe at the last moment with a splash of rum or your spirit of choice. It gets good reviews.

Edited to add; brown sugar added to the recipie, almost forgot that, but maple would work too. The raisins are naturally sweet so you don't have to use a lot of the brown sugar.

But back to the marketing satan and CANDY CORN!!!!!

Bike Writer,

I had to giggle yesterday when doing some grocery shopping and there was a stand with HUGE containers of candy corn and pumpkins. I thought they just came in bags. It's a good thing I can't stand them but thought of this thread.

My weakness are Yorkie Bars and you can't really get them in the USA. If you do, they are stale. American chocolate tastes like wax after DH ruined me for British chocolate and candy.

Broke down and got a bag yesterday, gone in no time. :D But it was just a teaser size little bag from Walgreens. I imagine that a big one will be scarfed before Halloween and that'll be it till next year. Indulgent little me. :o
