View Full Version : Lights for riding in the fog

Hi Ho Silver

This morning I ended up riding through a foggy area. I felt confident that the red flashing strobe light on my seat post (a Viewpoint model) made me visible to drivers in back of me, but I had no lighting on the front or side to alert drivers that I was coming on.

Any suggestions for some inexpensive lighting that flashes/strobes to make me visible from the front, and possibly from the side? I'd like the solution to weigh as little as possible and I don't want anything that would impede my using the flat section of the bars.

Thanks,

Jean

I highly recommend the bell sports flea 2 lights for this purpose. I bought mine from TE.

This is front (white light): http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodBL_2022268.html

This is the rear (red light): http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodBL_2022266.html

They take up very little room and charge from a computer usb port. Use can use them in various flash and steady modes, and they are small, light and bright.

Great for being sure cars see you in the fog! Thats exactly what I use them for.

I looked at the links you provided. Do you find that the quoted "run time" for the headlight (5 hours in flash mode) is accurate?

I have the front Flea light -- I've had for less than one month. It gets very weak after 3 hours and I don't believe it would last 4 or 5. I use it in blinking mode.

I don't think a 3 hour run time in flash mode would be enough for me. It almost seems like the light-weight units, which are rechargeable, have short run times in general and the heavier units that use AA or AAA batteries have much longer run times. Guess I'll have to live with a heavier unit ...sigh
