I've been reading some articles on lactate thresholds. What is the best way to increase your maximum threshold? My understanding is this will enable me to "suffer" longer and better on climbs, sprints, full-out efforts. What's the best way to push this limit?

Intense interval training will increase your lactate threshhold. The burn your lungs/ legs out kind. But you have to also make sure you accompany this with lots of steady aerobic training on the other days. You shouldn't do this kind of interval more than 2 times per week.

Here's a link to a book about High Intensity Training.

doc is right. Be careful when doing this type of training and only do it 2 times a week at most.

When I started doing the IT training I thought I was gonna die! It was like the movie where the kids would take one of them to the point of death and then bring them back. LOL :D But you should notice an improvement quite quickly.

Thanks doc for the advice and busterb for the link. It looks and sounds painful but hopefully I'll reap the results once racing season starts!

With 10 months of base training behind me, I am going to begin interval training...

Specifically to improve my time trialling...

I have three in my house who do intervals already, so its good to have their knowledge and experience... as well as people who have agreed to chase me and urge me on, or pull me along at high speed til I can no longer keep up, and then nurse me back home...

I am very lucky.
