View Full Version : TE Goose Chase this fall?

For those of us who aren't going to the Wild Goose Chase this fall (or even for those that are) is there any interest in spending a weekend biking and kayaking on the Eastern Shore? We can go to Cambridge like the WGC, or any other town people prefer.

If we share hotel rooms it won't be too expensive.

I'd say late September to mid-October would be best. The goose chase is October 22-23.

And unless someone is really creative, there won't be t-shirts or goody bags with this goose chase. :-)

What say y'all?

Depending on the weekend, I'd be up for something - maybe a multisport day trip if not a full weekend.

I'm interested ... depending on the weekend, as well.

What? No t-shirts?

Umm...I hadn't heard of the normal Wild Goose Chase, now I want to go to that.

So when are we doing this?
Day trip (or overnight) on September 25th?? (I vote for that Sunday that weekend so I can at least get one more swim in that Saturday at my pool before my tri on Oct 2nd. Pool is closed on Sundays - although that may have changed after Labor Day - and I never seem to get there during the week).
How about October 8th??
I can carry two boats and two bikes and all the relevant gear. We just got a helmet cam and I'm keen to video our most excellent adventures! :D

7rider - are you doing the Half Full tri in Ellicott City on the 2nd? Two friends and are a doing it as a team. I'm hoping the bike course isn't too hilly. :)

No, I'm doing the Hammerman Sprint tri at Gunpowder SP in Baltimore. Pancake flat, I hear.

I'd think a weekend in October, maybe Columbus Day weekend or the weekend after?

Not sure I can get my act together for September.

I vote for the weekend after Columbus Day. I've got plans that long weekend and pretty much all up to that point. But that's just me ... majority rules.

I vote for the weekend after Columbus Day.

I could maybe do the 16th as a day trip, but I'll be busy on the 15th.

I think Columbus Day weekend (the weekend of the 8th) can work for me.

So, what's the consensus?

I am interested - October weekends are good for me. I'll be riding behind you all though. There were a bunch of cue sheets on the Wild Goose website last year - I imagine they may still be there - for the Wild Goose rides as well as another 10 routes or so in the general Cambridge area.

However I'm extremely partial to any route that includes the SE portion of the Wild Goose rides. It is just gorgeous to ride through that marshy area from Liners Rd and up Maple Dam to Key Wallace and a run through Wildlife Drive.

Ok, let's get organized about this. I'm assuming we'll just spend one night (Saturday) in Cambridge. Copy and paste the list and put your name by the date if it works for you.

October 1-2 DB
October 8-9 DB
October 15-16 DB
October 29-30 DB

I leftout October 22-23 because that's the real goose chase.

Do you think it would be too cold the last weekend in October? Looks like that's the one that works for all who've responded.

It's hard to say ... I guess it's a roll of the dice. I'm good with whatever is decided. If we go I'll bring my warm clothes (most of which have been purchased from Cataboo). If we don't go then there's always next year.

Let's see what the consensus is.

It could be sunny and 70 that weekend. :D

I'd be up for that one, but I'd likely meet folks in the a.m. for a day trip. I wasn't sure when DC Cross was, but it's the weekend before (http://dcmtb.com/?page_id=766).

I won't be going now. I've made other plans for that weekend.

I'd say let's try for next year.

Spring?

Do you want to try a closer-to-home multisport day, cherry-picking some pleasant fall weekend? Say, Cedarville to Jug Bay?

I'm thinking neither Seagull nor Hagerstown is going to happen for us. We just can't get our act together - "Paralysis by Analysis" as they say.

I'm up for cherry-picking a pleasant fall weekend if I'm free. Keep me in mind, please.

I'd be up for that. And the spring, too.

I've got to get the kayak out one more time before I take the rack off the car.

Monday? Federal holiday. Beautiful weather.
KM, are you available?

I've got the day off, too. Yes, Monday ... where, what and when?

Cedarville at 10??
Ride for a few hours, head over to Jug Bay? Bring a picnic lunch.

I would like to ask a friend if she's available (but not on TE). If she is - and wants to try her hand at kayaking - I'd be unable to carpool, DB, as I'd be carrying two boats on the Escape. I'll let you know....

Anyone else??

I'd like to ask a friend (a co-worker of mine) too. I'd drive from Sterling to Cedarville. 10:30 would work best for me. I may just do the Cedarville ride and skip the paddle.

My friend, Carrie, would like to join us. The drive will take me 1 hr. 15 min. I could arrive between 10 and 10:30, I'd shoot closer to the 10:00 hour. I've reconsidered and will do the paddle portion. I'm just waiting to hear from you both.

We're in. My friend Mary will join us. I told her 10:30, but I'll try to also be there bt 10 & 10:30. So 10:30 on the "late" side.

I'm bringing both kayaks and she'll be joining us for the paddle, too (but arriving in her own car).

I'll shoot for 10 also, with bike and boat. Must remember to put new grips on the bike, since it's now gripless.
