Well ladies, I did it. I will soon be the owner of a 2010 Niner EMD!! (Price confirmed today but both the seller and I are taking trips this weekend, so I'll pick it up next week).
I need to pick a saddle, get the bars cut down (this guy had WIDE shoulders for someone my height), and tweak the general fit of the bike, but I'm pretty happy with it. And I actually clipped in today (for the first time in a year) to try it out...didn't have extra flat pedals to swap out. Eek! But not too bad, I might actually be able to re-learn with the clipless pedals on as long as I stay away from super technical stuff.
I've been wanting a new bike for so long but now that I found one I can't believe I made the investment. I'm terrified I'm going to decide, nah, changed my mind, hate mountain biking. Here goes! :o

Awesome! Congratulations on your lovely new bike :)
One of these days I would like to test-ride a 29'er just to see how one feels.

That's awesome! Congrats! Post pics when you have a chance.
P.S. I should probably ask this is a separate thread, how wide should bars be anyway? Is there an average size that most women (narrow shouldered women in particular) run? Do most women cut their bars down a bit?

I think it depends a lot on personal preference & the type of trails you ride, but this guy had pretty wide shoulders and liked even wider bars. I'll hook a tree with them, at the least, but they put my hands so wide that I can't really support my upper body (I have narrow shoulders).

Jess, that's awesome! Can't wait to see the pics!
Indy, it's a personal thing, and I think that it depends a little on the bike too. My singlespeed has wider bars (~26") than my geared bike (~24") for more leverage... DH, on the other hand, runs 28" bars on his single!

Ok, well I have been trying to log in to Flickr to upload the photos there, but since it keeps telling me to sign in with my "woeijowigangorgabiugaweiof" ID, rather than jessmarimba, I have an odd feeling that my account has been compromised.

Dear flickr, I hate you.

I give up. TE won't even let me upload attachments, for some reason. I think I am technologically cursed tonight.
For those of you sketchy about following blind links, I just sent you to the public link for a facebook album. Enjoy!

Beautiful bike indeed!
Kimikaw, your comment reminded me. I had a private lesson with a great mtb instructor/coach last month, and I now have her voice in my head. One is "pedal, pedal, pedal" when I am going over an obstacle - and it helps ;)

Neato, Jess! I hope it's all that you've been wanting in a MTB! What kind of fork is that? I can't see it very well in the pictures.

Sorry, they're iphone pics - the white got kind of washed out. Reba RLT ti.
The bike is a weird hodgepodge of components b/c it was built as a personal bike by a shop owner down the street, but I'm pretty sure just about everything on it is nicer than I could've afforded new.
It needs more color though :) Haven't figured out what I'm going to change yet!

Nice! DH has a Reba RL on his Redline 29er that he really likes. That's so cool that you found the bike used. Why was he selling it in the first place?

Sorry, just saw this! The bike shop guy had built up a full-suspension niner for himself and sold this one to the guy I bought it from. That guy is primarily a downhiller and wasn't really riding it much, so decided to sell. (From the looks of his garage - 8 motorcycles - he has other hobbies that take priority).
Rode the bike yesterday and it is FANTASTIC!! It shifts like a dream, it climbs up anything, and I either got the fit pretty close or the brakes are awesome or something else or all three, but there is no forward over-the-bars inertia when I slam on the brakes in a panic, even down a moderate hill :) Just - stop. I can crawl down hills and the bike is still stable, too (good for me right now). It helps that it weighs next to nothing (comparatively).
I am going to have to swap that SLX crankset soon though. My goodness is that thing loud.
Wanted to take it out somewhere fun tomorrow but I am WIPED after hiking two 14ers today. Plus all of my bike shorts are dirty. Might start the wash but I'll see how I feel in the morning!
