Just a few pics from our bike touring trip that dearie and I did for past few days. Between Calgary and Banff, with staying over in Canmore which was cheaper at this time of year. Canmore offers close up presence of mountains also. There is a new bike path 26 kms. 1 way between Canmore and Banff with terrific views of mountains that change along the way.

Pic of me is about 15 kms. south of Canmore yesterday.

I swear we must have seen the next generation of wild bighorn sheep at Lake Minnewaka area which is a turn off from the Banff Legacy Bike Path, about 10 kms. or less before Banff. There were well over 20 of them placidly gazing at the tourists, cars and odd cyclists like us.

We saw them the lst time 10 years ago in the winter when we went hiking.

Note part of this hiking area is forbidden at tourists at this time because of bear danger. But roads around Lake Minnewaka are fine. 10 years ago a local woman x-country skier was killed by a cougar.

As a Canadian I am embarrassed to say that I only learned a few days ago that the Canadian Rocky Mountain national parks of Banff, Yoho, Kootenay and Jasper are as 1 continguous set of mountain parks, designated as of the Unesco World Heritage sites.

More pics here. (http://cyclewriteblog.wordpress.com/2011/08/04/rocky-mountain-cycling-interlude-bighorn-sheep-ragged-peaks-and-turquoise-waters/)

I've been to all these parks...by coincidence within the past 15 years.
