I posted in the Bikes area that I've recently purchased a Cannondale Synapse Triple frame that I'll be building out. The only thing it "came with" was the triple crankset, minus chainrings. I've decided to change out the triple for a double. Where I live is pretty flat, and the double will give me more options for the rest of the components.
Other than the crankset itself, do I do I need anything else to transition to the double? Thinking particularly of the BB.

Since it came without chainrings- you will be fine!
Just make sure you get the correct BB, I think all Cannondale come with a BB90 ( I could be wrong...) but double check before you order a 30 :)
what LBS do you use?

My Cannondale Synapse is a BB30 (FSA SLK crankset). When I was thinking about swapping my FSA crank to a Shimano crank, I was told that I needed an "adapter" in order to fit the smaller Shimano crank into the BB30 frame. So...if you're building up with Shimano gruppo, that is a consideration. But if you're going with an FSA crank, then it shouldn't be much of an issue since FSA BB30's are readily available.

The plan is to go from an FSA BB30 Triple to an FSA BB30 Double - both Gossamer. I suppose I could go with an adapter and another make, but I'm not sure what exactly that would buy me. Would prefer to go the simple route, and short of buying the triple chainrings this seemed the easiest way.
Not being familiar with BB30, didn't know if other than the crankset itself, whether I needed to change out the BB. Thinking not - they use the same one?

No worries, Emily. You know more than I do - didn't know about BB90 at all. I'm a newbie when it comes to components and parts. Thanks for your response and follow up.

hmm mistake on my part! cannondale used to be big on the BB90- didn't realize they had changed over
Cannondale was actually responsible for the development of BB30 (http://www.cannondale.com/bb30)...it's their baby. :)

You don't need an adapter. Shimano doesn't make BB30, so to use a Shimano BB in a BB30 ready frame, you need an English threaded adapter. If you want to stick with BB30, then you have nothing to worry about. So, if it didn't come with chainrings, what parts do you have?

I was planning to go with FSA Gossamer Pro like the triple I have, but a double or compact double (I'm waffling on this again, as I may be moving in the next year or so to a hillier part of the country).
I've got everything but the chainrings and chainring bolts for the triple, as you can see by the picture below:
