View Full Version : Brooks Saddle Question

I found a nearly-new B17 online locally for a reasonable price. Have been wanting to try a Brooks for myself but did not want to pay full price. (Actually, I never really want to pay full price. LOL)
Is there any reason why a men's wouldn't be a good idea? I'm not petite, so if width is the only difference, I am willing to try it.
I was surprised to see that it is still available this morning, but that could be due to the color, which is blue -rather than honey, brown or black. Not a deal-breaker for me; it would go well with my bike.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The B17 is 170mm wide.
The outer 1cm on each side is over the metal cantle plate, so you don't want your sit bones to be contacting that outer cm or they will be on metal instead of on suspended leather.
If your sitbone OUTSIDE measurement is 150mm or less, the B17 should fit just fine.
(Butt-o-meters give you more the center-to-center measurement rather than outside measurement. To get your outside you could guess and add 20 or 30mm to your center, or remeasure using some of the tips in the sitbone measuring thread.)
ETA: And if your sitbone outside measurement is more than 150mm, you may be better off trying a B68 (210mm wide, therefore 190mm of suspended leather width) from www.wallbike.com using their fabulous 6 month free trial on Brooks saddles.

I haven't seen a B17 in Blue, was just on Brook's website and don't see one there either. Are you sure it is a B17? I am not an expert on Brook's but that was such an unusual color choice I thought I'd go look.

Thank you for your speedy replies. I guess this is a moot point now -I had checked early this morning and it was there. However, the ad has been removed since then.
He did have photos of the box and the saddle, and I had found listings of others in electric blue online to get a feel for the original price.
Guess it wasn't meant to be this time. :(

Yes, there are special edition colors-mandarin, apple green, blue, and a few others. Look on Amazon.
I have had my B17 standard (men's) for about a week and have ridden at least 50 miles so far and it's fine.
Too bad you missed it, but if you want to search on Amazon they are there.
