My SO and I were sitting on the deck yesterday having lunch when the dogs started barking their heads off. I looked down and saw a coyote running up our driveway. That in itself is a little strange at 1pm. They're usually out at sunset or at night. The stranger thing is what was making the coyote run. A DEER, in fact a doe, was running behind it, obviously chasing it. All we could think of was that the coyote was after the doe's fawns and she was pissed off. But I've never seen a deer chase a coyote before.

I'm not a fan of all those home video shows on tv, but that sounds like something that would have made an interesting video! I live "country" and we get animals too. My favorite was the family of foxes that lived under our barn floor. Mom would bring the babies out and play and groom them, and we watched with binoculars . They were adorable! The parents would leave small animal furs all over our yard which we had to clean up, but other than that we really enjoyed them.

That is very interesting for sure! I have seen them out during the day around here quite a bit. Funny the deer was chasing him lol! WOuld have liked to have seen that!
I saw 2 rattle snakes last week making baby snakes. I thought they were fighting at first. Then realized that was not the issue. That was a new one on me. Regardless I stayed out of their way.

we have a young coyote making himself too comfortable at my worksite. He won't even run away when we get near him. Someone even saw him with a cat in his mouth :(

That's why my kitties are strictly indoors....

I saw a news article that somewhere around here there's a coyote running around with a cookie jar stuck on his head.... He's been managing to avoid animal control/game warden? so far....

I've had to suture two dogs that were attacked by does with fawns. Their hooves are sharp and they'll lay them wide open.

I looked out my front window yesterday morning and saw a young coyote in my yard happily munching on our left over dinner from the night before. My SO had put the bag with chicken wings on our front porch instead of putting it in the garbage can. The bag was out there less than an hour. When I opened the door the coyote sauntered away. I yelled and to try to scare him but he wasn't too bothered by me.

We are very careful with our garbage and have never had a problem with coyotes in our yard so it was surprising how quickly this guy found the food. The scary part is it had no qualms about coming right up on our porch.

I wonder which bones it found the tastiest, I bet it was the ones with the Montgomery Inn Barbeque Sauce from a restaurant in Cincinnati. :)

My kitty is also an indoor cat as is most of the pets in this neighborhood.

A few years back, I heard my dog yelping her 'scared' yelp and when I ran outside, a deer was chasing her. My dog saw me, ran towards me and up onto the deck behind me. I just stood my ground until the deer kept coming at me and then we both ran inside. I watched from the window as the deer turned and headed into the woods. She flipped up her tail and I saw blood on the white part (it was a big white-tailed deer). She'd VERY recently given birth! Not 5 minutes later, my boyfriend at the time spotted the fawn through the trees.

Anyway, since I now know that deer chase dogs and will even stand up to humans to protect their babies...I totally believe the deer was chasing the coyote in your yard! Good for her! ;)
