I'm fairly savvy about computers. Use Linux, have windows overlay, use Firefox...Programmed in html, used Dreamweaver, TCL, Lisp, C/C++... know and used magic packet, pinging of computers...

But two of my computers, one using Mandriva spring 2010 release, the second using windows XP service pack 2, are not loading up the pages from yahoo groups nor is it loading up my google account and gmail. I haven't been able to check my gmail account. It was working before the move. Both computers says that the page is loaded but its blank. Looked at the source code for the page and well, its blank as expected for a blank page.

Both computer uses WIFI (inside the house to connect to a WIFI router) which then connects to Clear 4G wireless modem to get me onto internet. Before the trouble my XP was connected to the router via 100Meg ethernet then onto Verizon DSL while the Linux box was through WIFI then onto the router -> verizon DSL -> internet.

Checked the security setting on both computers and nothing has changed.
Checked the security setting on my router and nothing has changed.
I don't have enough documentation for the Clear 4G modem.

Have any suggestions?

:confused: Please don't tell me that there is some security features in the 4G modem. :(

You may have already tried this, but I've gone through situations where I've had to reboot everybody - modem, router, computer. That has helped me in the past.

have you tried seeing if you can connect to the internet from one of your computers directly through the Clear 4G wireless modem? That is, skip the wifi router to see if the problem is the wifi router or the modem.

I was looking on the internet and it looks like Clear 4G has a modem with wifi built in.

Is this the modem you are using? If not, you might try this modem then you shouldn't need the wifi router.

well... I think my WIFI router is brain dead.

I've been changing its setting most of the morning, changing my network configuration... and nothing seems to work. And now http://198.168.2.1 in the web browser is not connecting to the router. Router is pretty old anyway. Changing of settings would not have caused the router to not respond to a fixed (hard wired) address.

One thing I did notice of my booboo. Internet MAC address had not been changed when I changed from Verizon DSL to Clear 4G modem. Fixing the MAC address helped a lot but the problem I was having before is still there.

Time to buy an 8-port or 16-port switch plus a WIFI access point.
