all expenses paid, time is granted off... where would you go? You only get to pick one place so you can't say a week in this country and then a week in another...

OK big dreamers... where are we off to?

For me... Italy. 2 weeks touring Italy... someday... someday... :D

Europe would be wonderful. I would like to tour Germany or France or Italy but what I really would like to do if ride along the East Coast, staying in quaint Inns, crossing over covered bridges. Maybe something like Maine, or Up state NY, Vermont or West Virginia. Heck, I would just like two weeks off to ride!

That's a tough one. Probably Italy, but Scandinavia and Switzerland also appeal to me....

The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, Canada and US. Wait that might take 2 months, at least. :o

It has to be just one? I love history, the Lewis and Clark trail, the new Adventure Cycling Underground Railroad Route probably top my list, of course Tuscany, Southern Norway with my sister and her family, Loire Valley and or South of France, hilly but .... the Alps and Geneva to visit my cousin in Geneva and then maybe down to Italy....

I would do the Camino de Santiago by bike (across Northern Spain). I have already done this journey once on foot, and wouldn't mind a repeat that didn't take 30 days...

Sitting here at lunch pondering this idea...I'd love to do The Rock..(newfoundland to you non canucks)...or alberta, sask & manitoba....

So many places to choose from but i'd love to see Canada by bike first...

That's a tough one! As crazycanuck mentioned in her post, I'd love to cycle across Canada. There is a organized tour http://www.tourducanada.com/Intro.html that is a nine week tour across. Riders cycle 7,700 kilometres (4600 miles)through all 10 Canadian provinces each summer. I'd love to do that one.

But ultimately, riding in Italy and France would be dream vacations. I'd like to climb the Alpe d'Huez and conquer the Ventoux!!!

I'd need more than two weeks - more like two months! But if I could do my dream cycling trip of a lifetime, I would do as Denise G. did and ride my bike with all my gear from the west coast to the east coast of the good ol' USA. Could happen one of these years........

But def somewhere in Europe/Britain simply because of the streets and buildings and forests and farms that have been there forever...

In New Zealand we have no old roads, nothing cobbled (except recent city designed stuff), our oldest building is about 200 years - maybe younger... we are such a young country I would love to visit somewhere that has so much history...
Tell me about it! The oldest pub in my area dates from 1725 (or something - I'm gonna have to remember to check next time I go past), and that's nothing for London! It's something I don't think I would ever get used to.

A several-week bike tour of Tuscany with Butterfield and Robinson. Not everybody's choice of a bike tour but one that really appeals to me. Just take a look at this:

Thanks for asking. Great question and some great responses here. It's fun to read them all.

Number one on my list in Denmark. There's a scenic highway that circles the whole country and it's a really bike friendly place. I spent a fall semester there and will definitely go back in the summer someday, and definitely with my bike.

I've been looking into Vietnam and Cambodia, it would be great if I can figure a way to make it happen. I keep looking at tour companies (so$$$$) vs. doing it ourselves. Since Cambodia's only been doing the tourist thing for a small amount of time, I'm thinking I'd feel more comfortable with a tour. Either way, I hope I can make it happen somehow! I've also heard great things about biking Iceland!

DH and I are talking about a jaunt across Missouri on the Katy Trail next October. Done right with much wine tasting and sight seeing, that should take about 2 weeks. (There, I said it, now I have to do it.)

But for my dream vacation - two weeks - I want to ride close to Big Scary Water. Nova Scotia? Vancouver & the San Juan Islands? Down the West Coast of the US? Heck, I'm not proud, I just want to see Big Scary Water (says the child of the desert).

Hey snowtulip..if you want to cycle from vietnam to cambodia, try Intrepid travel-they do small group tours and are a great co all round..(went with them to climb the rice terraces in the philippines). Also, oxfam does the same however you raise the $$$...and it all goes to charity.

Thanks CrazyCanuck, I'll check them out! I've been e-mailing with Handspan and they offer some great affordable options (I also like that they are local, environmentally friendly, and work with local communities). Fingers crossed that all the stars line up correctly to make this happen.

Hey snowtulip...Intrepid uses local transport and has great rapport with the local community. I can't say enough good things about them. They're an australian based company too which i like. I'd love to bike from Vietnam to Cambodia...but i've been there already and would like to do something different.

all expenses paid, time is granted off... where would you go?

Two weeks of cycling in the Loire Valley (France) would be awesome. Or, perhaps down in the Cote d'Azur be even better.

I would definitly pick Vermont. I love small villages with little parks in the middle of town were I could spread out a blanket and have a picnic lunch. The covered bridges are also fun to ride on. Oh, and of course take a dip in the stream. It's also close so if I were to get homesick I would be able to get home quickly.

That is 2 weeks each year, right?

Yes. I did a two week trip to Austria and Germany without my kids and missed them terribly hence the homesickness.

OOoohhh JoBob! That's it! I want to go! The North Sea, Big Scary Water, countries I haven't been to yet (and a few I have.)

Now to find a way to pay for it. (Um, don't I remember that someone else would pay for this?)

On the bright side, this work overload I suddenly have could pay for a trip like that - if I didn't have other expenses in my life
