Dearie was interviewed briefly on a Taiwanese tv news channel about cycling infrastructure during his visit there: http://ap.ntdtv.com/b5/20110627/video/66193.html

Just wondering if you know enough Chinese..

He's gotten some interesting responses (http://thirdwavecyclingblog.wordpress.com/2011/07/09/taiwan-cycling-tale-of-two-cities-hsinchu-city-and-taipei/)to the blog article he wrote about his experiences.

Sorry, my Chinese is not very good, especially when people are talking fast like in the video. I can only pick out a few words here and there. Like the word for "bicycle," and maybe "through." About halfway through I did catch a mention of Taipei and then Hsin ju, which I may be spelling wrong. Hsin ju is a suburb or neighborhood north of the city if I remember. I think a lot of expats live there.

Guessing from the images they show at that moment, perhaps there is a trail or route from Taipei to Hsin ju?

Thanks for trying. It's Hsinchu.

Blog post now has more commentary: http://thirdwavecyclingblog.wordpress.com/2011/07/09/taiwan-cycling-tale-of-two-cities-hsinchu-city-and-taipei/
Some of it ..actually is quite debatable, wouldn't you say?? :)

and in this totally different blog of an ex-pat guy who lives in Taiwan somewhere: http://taiwanincycles.blogspot.com/2011/07/analysis-of-taiwans-cycling.html#comments

Andrew actually has some interesting observations about cycling, politics, etc. for that country.

But all the responses so far, except for the excerpt from an American ex-Taiwanese that I copied for everyone to read, are non-Asian ex-pats.

And none are actively involved in cycling advocacy groups in Taiwan. They are simply regular cyclists.
