...I break blood vessels.

Seriously, at least 2x I have noticed a relatively large hematoma on my thigh within 24 hours of finishing a longer ride effort.

This is on the inside side of my right knee after yesterday's century:

This one was on one of my thighs the day after a sprint duathlon on May 1:

Anyone else get things like this? I have thin blood...a surgeon once called me a bleeder after they nearly needed to give me a unit of blood. I avoid aspirin and NSAIDs, since I am paranoid that I will crash my bike and bleed-out.

Yikes!!  Did they tell you anything you can do for that? Eat more Vitamin K veggies? Anything???

Me too! I have random bruises of various sizes (mostly smaller than yours though) all over my thighs. I'd just assumed I was maybe knocking into my frame on particularly bad pavement or something. How's your iron intake? Maybe taking a supplement would help.

I carry a lot of bruises on my legs since I have started biking again last year. I get them on my inner thighs from dismounting and from the knees down it looks like a war zone. I wish I didn't but I do. I also have a couple that have been there for over 6 months and have a knot in them. I asked the Dr. last time I was there for a check up and she said that sometimes when you bruise on the bone it might never go away!

I think my iron is pretty good--when it's not I definitely feel it. Vitamin K is a good suggestion, though. I don't even know if my multivitamin has much (or any) K. Even as a kid I bruised easy, but these aren't bruises in the traditional sense, as there was no impact causing these spots...just vessel rupture of some sort, from my quad muscles working, I guess...

Wow.
I noticed small(er) bruises on my legs after Saturday's 40K time trial.
I never got that before and was going to post a question just like yours.

Interesting...I have been on again, off again commuting to work (based on my custody schedule with my kids) and I notice during weeks I commute, I get bruises on my inner thighs. My ride is short and not strenuous (3.5 miles each way, all flat) and I thought maybe I was just hitting myself during dismounts, but that never really seemed quite right. Now I wonder if something else is going on.

I might also mention that any of you who take anti oxidants, fish oil, vitamin e, green tea, etc. have thinner blood and might be more inclined to bruise.

I am so used to having random bruising and bruises on my arms and legs that I no loger pay attention. I can give myself and bruise by just scratching at some dry skin too hard.

sigh.. marni

Ha, I totally get that. And when I do have falls I bruise BAD! I was thrown from a snowmobile in HS onto a patch of ice and had a dinner plate sized bruise on my hip for months. Another time I crashed while inline skating and had bruises all up once side of my body.

I don't take any supplements that would thin my blood, so I think it's just me. I have fairly low BP, too.
