I am in need of a new saddle ASAP. When I ride, it hurts and I'm not talkin' saddle sores. Its my sit bones and that "little muscle" in the middle of "you know where";) I've tried Balmex and Chamois butt'r and I'm dying!!! So, which is best for me, the Terry butterfly(which I've seen alot of good review for), the Terry Women's Liberator Gel, and I've even seen the Terry Women's Butterfly Gel Saddle?

Little help, please!!!

hey vanessa!!! i had the same problem with the sit bones and what i call the "disneyland spot". i got the terry butterfly, and my "down there" parts are thanking me. it made all the difference in the world. if that doesn't work, try one of the gel saddles from terry. chamois butt'r never worked for me because it was too thin. i am going to try bag balm and see how it goes. i will let you know.

Thanks goddess! I'm definatly getting a new saddle this week. I'm dying. The only I don't like about the Terry butterfly saddle is that stupid looking butterfly on the back. Its so girly. I hope some other tri-ladies would have that as well. How's the bag balm working? By the way, I got a new pair of Canari 8 panel shorts this weekend and they are just FAB! Doesn't cure the problem in the "disneyland spot" (LOVE IT!) but it helps.

Ayermail2 - have you actually got one of these? As a mountain biker I look at this and have no idea how it would actually work for me, in terms of technical riding. I was just wondering about your experiences...

Sempre -

I have the lycra one currently (looking to go for the regular "leather" one).

It works really well for road riding (love it!) (on my mountain bike with slicks), but I am not sure about it for technical mtb'ing.

I only do very non-technical mtb'ing, but it's hard to imagine getting over the top of it if I had to throw my weight back as it is as wide across the back as my Terry Butterfly was long! but it is pretty cheap compared to some of the other saddles out there, so it may be worth a try. (don't know how international shipping would impact it price-wise!)

I recently bought a Brooks Finesse and am trying to break it in. The sit bones are fine, but the perineum area is raw and painful. I have a theory that part of the problem is that the chamois dries up that area, causing the tissues to rub against each other. I really want this saddle to work, but I am doubtful. Please tell me what to try to stop this pain! Do creams work? How about wearing underwear as well as the padded shorts?

Maybe different shorts with a different chamois are what you need. For sure keep looking until you find what works. Riding a bike should not be an uncomfortable experience.

I will go to the Feed & Seed store today to get the Bag Balm. When we lived in Germany, I used to ride with European shorts (without pain) and their chamois pads were real leather. I am wondering if these pads were stiffer and did not fit up into the crotch area like the artificial chamois pads do. I am definitely going to put some of the Bag Balm onto the center of the chamois to cut down the wicking feature from the part that contacts the painful area. My shorts are made by Pearl Izumi and Speedo, so they weren't cheap, by any means. Thanks for the help.
