I've been shopping for a new bike for months and finally bought one last week: a Trek Lexa S (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/sport/lexa/lexa_s/#). I love it! I can't believe how much more fun riding a bike is now than it was when I was a kid. And this is a big improvement over the General mountain bike I bought 22 years ago. I rode 14 miles my first time out on the bike path and was ready more.

Thanks to all of you who've posted questions and advice in this forum. I read and read here while I was shopping. You helped me make a decision I'm really delighted with.

Happy trails!

Very nice! (Which color did you get?) And which bike path? I'm moving up to Dayton later this summer.

Many happy miles to you!

Thanks for the welcome! I'll post photos later today.

Owlie, I live just four blocks from the Dayton Art Institute, so my rides so far have been on the path that runs along the Great Miami. We've got bike paths all over Dayton and the nearby counties though, so you'll never run out of places to ride. Dayton has also been adding bike lanes to some of the downtown streets and plans to add more in the future. And somebody recently started a free bike program. They put out 50 bright yellow bikes downtown. Anybody can ride them and then just leave them at the final destination. Bikes are cool in Dayton!

I've been doing some reconnaissance of the area via Google Maps. Lots of trails, by the looks of it. Hopefully they get around to actually connecting some of them! I'm moving up toward the Fairborn/Beavercreek area, so while I'm not in the epicenter of bikeness, I'm not that far from one of the parks so I can access that particular trail.

Owlie, one of the main old railroad bike paths runs through Beavercreek, although further south in the city from you. There's also one along the backside of Wright State University near Fairborn. I teach at WSU so I drive by it, but I haven't ridden it so I don't know where it goes.

I was up there today, registering for classes, and I did find the path. :) It runs parallel to that street that's on the back of campus, though how far up it goes I don't know.
